Have about 10 hard hours on the 250es I just rebuilt, used the 10w40 atv oil from valvoline. It smokes when under a load (blue smoke)...not happy about it but it runs great. ANyhow, I went from right above the full line, to right under low line in those 10 hours. I dont screw the dipstick in while checking... Any ideas???btw, no leaks, maybe a couple little wet spots. Could I have burned that much oil???

Just checking but you did change valve seals when you rebuilt it?

My thought is that yo dont have the oil control rings (bottom 3) in the corrent positions. Make sure the gaps arent lined up, or oil will go past them.

Yeah the ring staggering sounds like the culprit, if you changed all the seals. Did you replace and lap the valves too? Blue smoke is oil burning, it's coming from somewhere...

when you did ther top end, please give details. some people's redid the top end are not the same as others. when I rebuild a top end I have the cyclinder bored to the piston size I purchase and do a machined valve job. when I jsut "refresh" it the cyclinder is usually ok, so I just hone and replace the rings and lap the valves.

What did you do to the stuff on the rebuild? Are you certaint he machine shop properly bored and honed the cyclidner if you had it done to the correct pisotn specs? if not and it's too big or the egg shaped your cyclinder it can cuase this issue too.
