View Full Version : Proper adjustment of 350x decompression cable?
Dammit!

Note: I haven't actually tried to do it yet so this might be one of those cases where I'm asking a stupid question.
I see HOW to adjust the cable but, how do you know when it is properly adjusted?
I don't think mine is having any effect at all right now. Figured I'd try to fix that before I leave friday morning if I have time. Maybe it'll be obvious once I start messing with it but figured I'd ask first since I don't see it in the manual.

It's basically just a "free play" adjustment.
Other things can happen though so if it doesn't work like it should with the proper free play, it's something else.
I've taken apart a couple motors and found the cam on the K shaft under the clutch cover to be installed wrong. Sad thing is, it has a flat that can only go one way unless you force it

I doubt it is your problem, but you might want to check your valve clearances (really only matters on the one exhaust valve) and then re-adjust the decompressor. The decompressor should have between .5mm-1.5mm of slack, which is not much. You should really notice a difference if it's working or not. You might watch the cable when you kick it, or have someone else kick it and watch the cable and make sure it's actuating. You could try forcing the decompressor open with a screw driver or pliers, but I'd be careful in case you hold the valve open too far and it hits the piston (I don't know if this could happen or not). If you have the factory service manual, it should be on page 3-6.

I adjusted it before I had time to re-check this thread. Totally simple. Just take the slack out. Starts WAY easier now. I can start it with rebooks on without feeling like I broke my foot.

are you stock compression? haha try starting one with a 10.25 to 1 wiseco...geezzz lol if i hit it on te compression struck i have to jump up and fall on the kicker...i can only imagine a 12 to 1 wiseco

I don't know what's in it actually. It's still got a pretty good amount of compression even with the release working. I wouldn't be surprised if it had some variety of high compression piston in it.
