I am thinking of using a twist throttle on my Tri-z. Looking at it I'm not sure how to make it a reverse accelerate on the twist. Any info would be helpful.
Thanks

Like rolling it the way the wheels turn to accelerate? Why?

Im guessing hes not used to the twist and if it wheelies it wont flip back if he pulls back on the throttle.

It's a safety issue mostly. If you lose control of the atc you're prone to pull back on the throttle and accelerate it even more. If it decelerates you have a chance to regain control or at least not make it worse.

I don't see twists a problem I perfer them if you reverse it it would be akward and defeat the purpose for me. I say try it for a bit and see how you like it if you don't then use a thumb

I put a twisty on my X and It's the best thing I ever did.. Yea, you have to get used to it. Put it on and ride it like an old lady til you do get used to it. As far as trying to reverse a twisty, that wouldn't be very practicle to ride... just my .02

I'm pretty sure if you reversed it everytime you hit a bump and the bars jolted to the right it would open the throttle because you're putting forward pressure on it and really wouldn't have any way to control it. When you're twisting the top towards you the bouncing around wouldn't be an issue because you are also trying to stabilize the front end. It'd be easier to get hurt with it going the other way. Just think about climbing up a hill and trying to roll your wrist forward while you're leaning forward on the machine and gravity is pulling you back down the hill, seems a little awkward to me...

I don't understand why so many people here have such a problem with a twist throttle. They have been used on motorcycles for decades. Do motorcycles go any less out of control if you are doing a wheelie and you yank the throttle wide open?

Has no one ever ridden a cycle or watercraft with the reverse throttle?
Do they make one that is reversible for the atv or can the standard one be modified to be reversed? I know I've seen them, just can't remember where.
Thanks

Not to turn this into another "this vs. that" thread, but I don't get it either. I put my first twist on a '85 350X in 1985, and have put them on every sport/performance/race ATV I've had since. I've never once lost control BECAUSE of a twist throttle, but to each their own.
As to the topic, I was unaware that there were reverse-twist throttles. It seems to me that such a setup wouldn't be near as awkward on a watercraft as it would be on rough ground and hills. I would pass on the opportunity to even try it.

Never heard of a reverse TWIST throttle. I have ridden MANY watercraft from seadoo, yamaha, to stand up Kawies, none from the factory that I rode had a pull type throttle, now aftermarket is another story, yes you can get a finger "PULL" throttle, which can be better in the chop, they look just like a mountian bike brake lever, short and stubby and you only use about 2 fingers on them, I rode a Seadoo HX with that set-up. You can get a PUSH-PULL twist throttle if that's what you looking for but that uses 2 cables one to open the throttle and the other to close it, not sure if you could use one of those and just use the one cable on the push side, I think the carb are special for those, here's a link to one I think also requires a special carb I think:

If your uncomfortable with the traditional twist then I'd stick to the thumb throttle. I've ridden both and now could really care less which I had, although I do like to reminesce to my Tecate days, back then all I wouldn't ride anything without a twist! Good luck in your search.
