I have new Yamaha piston rings. One ring has a coating on the outside and the other doesn't. Does anyone know which one is the top and which one is the middle. Thanks

was something similar with the new ATC70 rings i fitted last night. One of them had kind of chamfered edges, the other had real sharp square edges, so i put the chamfered one at the top and the square edged one in the middle. I'm not saying its right, but its how i did it, is it right? anyone? (I haven't started it up yet.....)

No according to the manual thats wrong. Chamfered ring is second with the widest part down. But that doesn't answer my question.

Top ring is usually shiny or has a shiny edge, 2nd ring is normally all black. The marking on the ring faces up (I've seen them with T, P, and R's so far).

Guess id better take it apart again then  Will it really make a huge difference? what problems could it cause?
