View Full Version : Anyone in Texas street legal there 3 wheeler
I have read all of the rules. There is no reason you cant. On the way home today i stopped and talked to Inspection Quick to see if they would give me the green sheet. He said as long as it meets the crudentials for a motorcycle then yes, which are
Low/ high beams
Brake light front/ back
horn
left side mirror
dot tires ( he said just gring off " not for highway use " )
Insurance
Title
All lights work without engine running ( need a battery )
I started researching this to street legal a dirtbike and it is really simple. It will be classified as a motorcycle. along with the dirt What do yall think??? The trike falls into what the state of texas classifies as a motorcycle. I spent the day reading every rule. The kicker is the title says its a motorcycle. If it says atv, there isnt anyway. I am looking to street legal a dirt bike and thats why i started thinking about this. Not saying i am going to do it.
Here are your tires.

I will keep that in mind if i need them. The shop said if they dont say not for highway use then they are legal.
duro makes some sweet street tires too.

I hear ya - but - I'd like to see you run something that will handle the road pretty good too and be 'safe' (as safe as a trike can be on the highway that is!)
Not sure if i am going to do it. If i do, it will be more of a novelty thing. Trikes suck on the street. But it would be nice to drive down to the gas station and get gas. I am sure there will be somebody that notices something i overlooked anyway.
I am bored at work today so i have done a bit of research. I talked to a few people at thumpertalk and it seems that you can use a baja designs kit for a XR200 or take the wiring harness and all of the goodies off of a xl250 to make the conversion. Everything should mesh up. Just have to fab up a license plate holder.... The stator will not have to be rewound. Of course i havnt compared schematics or anything and probley wont. But just thought i would pass it on.
Oh, this was for the 87 200x.

Heck I can do that here without it being street legal! As long as you are just passing through and don't ride like an idiot the cops don't seem to care. Of course you also have to obey the rules of the road. I got pulled over for going the wrong way down a one way side street lol. The street didn't used to be one way, and I hadn't realized it had been changed.

Here they are very strict about being on the roads. If you are caught it is a $500 fine and they will impound your bike. Actually the fine is better than it use to be. I got caught on a dirtbike when i was 14. It was running and i was stopped tinkering with the throttle cable adjustment. I got tickets for no license, no insurance, no inspection, no registration and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. It was a $1400 fine and they impounded the bike, luckily i got most of it dismissed.

I grew up in Corpus and there are a couple of them running around down there make sure you are running real dot tires if you alter the others they will write you up got busted for that in highschool with a car with cheater slicks with"not for highway use"sanded off it was a $500 dollar ticket. I'm gonna try it in florida with my 200x xr200 wiring harness I already know where one is but be ready to be pulled over I think it would be cool to go bar hoppin with and get a trailer to go grocery shopping or walmart just for laughs:beer
