Where can a guy buy bolts (besides OEM) that have 8,10,12, and 14mm heads??
I cannot stand being in the middle of a teardown and stopping to go look for a 11mm, 13mm, 15mm, etc...

Unfortunately that is kind of a locational thing. I know out here, I have lots of places that I can buy hardware by the pound regardeless of size, length, or thread pitch. But if it is for a specific build, you can buy a stainless hardware kit for that bike.

What about your local hardware store? I know Homedepot doesn't have great selections on stuff like that, but even the local auto shop should be able to help you out.

Personally, I also save a bunch of crap, and have a few buckets full of odds and ends from different repairs. when I am looking for something, I clear an area on the floor and dump the bucket out, usually I will find what I either need or will work ;)

Would you be interested in a box of used atv bolts?

The best I've found that is the closest for most people is Ace hardware stores. They have quite a good selection of metric fasteners. I've always been suprised how much they have. allen head, flange head, stainless, fine thread, ect. they got it!

Ace does have a good selection. We have a Large Ace store about 25 miles from here that has metric threaded rod ( or did a year ago ). It's the only place I ever seen it.
Our local Ace store isn't very big, but it still has most of what i ever need.

I have to agree, The ACE here is small, and expsensive by comparison, but the people are friendly, knowledgable, and you do find what you need dman near every time

I have an ACE within a mile of my place.... That's where I got the allen head replacements when I did the oil filter last week. Phillips heads suck.

Do you have a Fastenall in your city? When I need a bunch of something I'll go there to get what I need.

I have two ammo cans full of old bolts and nuts, unfortunately they are all SAE and that helps me none with this little Kawasaki.

fastenall near my palce sucks! you have to order jsut about anythign and wait for delivery so i woudl rather use ace on some stuff. next month, I'm doing a $100 order on the oemn reman bolts i found. that'll give me about 3 of nearly every bolt on a honda trike. sure a few one-offs or very large liek mount bolts will not be there, but everything else should be.

The good thing about Fastenal.com is that you can order any bolt you might ever need and they'll have it to your door in a couple days. I needed head bolts for an old AMC V-8 and they were the only ones that could get them to me quickly and with a reasonable price. The local house is good for a lot of standard size stuff around here.

Mcmaster has good prices on bolts. Both hex and allens.

But, as far as the hex bolts, you can't get the shoulder on the head and the 8MM bolts have a 13MM or 1/2" head. Never bothered me but thought I'd warn ya.

A few guys have posted some near identical style bolts to OEM available elsewhere. Probably not inexpensive though.

I did not ever find Fastenal cheap or fast but to each there own.

^^^^ I agree with DC. I almost always use McMaster, If I order by 11 am, I have them delivered by their driver by 3PM to work(just before quitting time). Saves me the trip and they always have what I need, and they sell everything!
