I came by the autobody trade honestly. My dad bought his first car when he was 15 and started "fixing it up". He went on to be a very good bodyman and somewhat of a local legend because of some of the cars he's built. He just turned 76 and going strong and he's the oldschool hotrod guru in these parts. He has more trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro going on than I can keep track of. This is just some of it.
Billy asked for some pics so I went over to his shop after work and snapped a few. The black roadster is one he built and sold about 15 years ago. It's getting a modern steering box.

This one is a 32 roadster my dad is building for himself. It will have nothing newer than 50s stuff going into it.

This one is getting a new floor and some sheetmetal around the bottom replaced. When that part is solid again it will get the top chopped.

This one is a modern one with a Brookville body and tons of stainless and polished aluminum,,,,,,,,,,,oh and a smallblock chevy.

This is sitting out front of the shop. He got it running and drove it around to check out the trans and brakes etc. ?????

This one was delivered to Pheonix last fall. The picture was taken right before he left. He pulled a trailer behind it with his 88 chevy pickup on it for the return trip. It was about a 5 year project, in his spare time. 1upfront on the left my dad in the middle and me on the right.

You can see his truck on the trailer in the background in this one.

I'm sure I have more pics around.

wow.... that's some really nice looking projects your father has done. great work. It's definitely a real art to restore cars and do it right.
Is it ever really a pain to get parts? It would kinda remind me of fixing ATC's, half the thrill is in the hunt of this or that, or simply mocking (sp?) it up yourself to get it done.... :wondering

Yes it's very similar to finding the rare stuff for the atc's. He has his networks for all of the different things he needs, we have these forums. He loves all of the fab work involved in building these cars and trucks.

Daddio,
Thanks for the pics!!!!!!! I really love when guys keep brand specfic motors in their cars, Ford to Ford and Chevy to Chevy. My old man is a rodder still has a good bit of his old stuff, most of it unfinished (27 Chevy roadster, 32 5 window, 56 T-Bird, 57 Chevy Belair, and his old show car a 52 Ford custom Convert with a SBC, rolled and pleated, 56 chevy tail lights and the list goes on). His 52 was done long time ago,put the chevy in probably 45+ years ago( I'm 34 and I never rode in it, has been in his barn my whole life!!!!) When he bought his farm he parked it and never moved it again! Come to think of it I've never touched it! I keep telling him to pull it out so I can see it and we can start to work on it, I would love nothing more than to cruise around in it with my pops. I know everyone uses the terms "rat rod" but I think his is more of a "barn find cruiser". I wish my dad would retire from work to work on his "toys", but the tax man kills him on the property alone. His 56 bird has not been on the road since 1976--2 years after I was born, it was my moms car and she couldn't fit 3 kids in a 2 seat car anymore:lol: By the looks of the pictures it looks like you father enjoys what he does and he does it well.
Thanks again for the pics, that really made my nite!

there is nothing more perfect than the old american made vehicles.
damn I love the old styling.
before traffic slowed to a crawl in atlanta...I came up on the side of a 40s white pickup. drag slicks with skinnies up front. I just kept circling him in traffic to see the truck from every angle...then he got pissed off and left me in the nonexistant dust.

My sentiments exactly. A lot of the older cars were truly works of art right from the factory. The design and craftsmanship that went into them was awesome. I was born in 1957 and as far as I'm concerned that was the pinnacle era of auto design or should I say styling.?:beer
Hopefully Speedbump or 350xhilaration post up. There dad is doing up an early 30's roadster with a flathead, freeking looks sweet. There dad reminds me of yours Daddio as far as the car resto stuff goes.

Those are some of the most awesome cars I have ever seen. Me and my friends are really into the old hot rods. My buddy bought a 32 ford truck a while back and he cruises everywhere. Some people think its weird for a 20 year old to be into that kind of stuff. Too bad youth these days cant appreciate art for what it is.

I'll bet your dad got a lot of thumbs up when he was pulling the trailer with the newer one on the trailer. That is cool

I found a few more pics from my dads shop taken over the past few years and one of my old Chevy C-10.
This one sold two years ago.

A 40 Ford "Jeep" prototype. Ford didn't win the contract with the military so this is super rare.

How much do you think the Ford Jeep is worth?

That is a good question, but unfortunately I don't have the answer. :wondering

Very cool! I absolutely love the blue Ford flatbed!
I've got a 1965 F-250 I'd like to tear into eventually. Have you ever seen a two door supercab on this bodystyle before?
The floor is full of rust, the engine is seized, the front tires are locked up... I'm really thinking about putting the cab on a newer one ton 4x4 chassis with diesel. I'd replace the cab floor with one that matches the donor chassis; solves the cab mount problem and I can bolt in some newer seats. I'm undecided if I want to put an 8 foot stylside bed (with the bedside toolboxes!) on it or do a flatbed (I'm not sure how to make a flatbed look right with the truck). If I do an 8 foot bed, the wheelbase would match the current Super Duty with the supercab and 8 foot bed! I'm also thinking about cutting the roof out and doing a ragtop. I do want to paint it blue, I'm liking the idea of doing a dark blue in a satin finish to really make the chrome show.
Maybe one day I'll find an Airstream trailer to go with it...

I saw one like that many years ago when I lived in Colorado. That would be the way to do it with the later model frame etc. Nice.

I had a '64 c10 back in highschool. It was 1989 and that thing stuck out like a sore thumb. My parents sold it when I went to bootcamp, boy was I mad when I got home and found out. It was blue and had a short bed like yours, man I loved that truck.
