I wondered if anyone would like to start a thread on obsolete OEM parts. There getting harder to find and alot of us order a part and then a week later get a phone call as I did on the 87 250SX the other day for the rear air box boot - gonzo.

I just though a permanent list we could add to of discontinued parts and there part number sure could help in a restore. I'll bet alot of 200X 250R and 350X parts are gone because of their popularity. And like the Tecate and the "green gold" I think plastic radiator shroud it was - as Jeb calls it. An updated list sure would be helpful.

I do have one question though. The last I knew absolutely all dealers get there same parts from what was refferd to as "AMERICAN HONDA" and when there out all the dealers are out unless it's on their shelf, correct??

We'll have to split it up by manufacturer to make it easier.

Part # unknown as there are 3 or 4 but all the 1985,86 and 87 250SX air box rear boots are discontinued. They pop off the carb rear so it's too bad!

86 250r rear fender sticker that reads "ATC 250R" is discontinued. The chain tightening tool for an 85 350x is discontinued. I think the parking brake cable for an 85 350x is also discontinued but i could be wrong. I think for all Honda 3 wheelers that had logos on the seat they are discontinued with the logos on the seat, they are just plain blue.

i noticed that....even listed here there is a lack of tecate parts...almost all of the 84/85 parts are used on different bikes today, exept for the plastic and unique parts like the grill and light housing but i have gone shopping and i can still get almost every part for my tecate still....and there pretty cheap :D there is a bike shop where i live about 40 miles away called "cycle sports" and every time i have needed a part they have had it or could order it :-D :D :-D

85 250R OEM headlight plastic. When I ordered mine about a year and a half ago, Honda had 3 left, and I got one of those. Not sure if the other two are long gone or not.

I know for a fact that there are some important parts discountinued for the 84 Tecate. Im starting the building of the beast and I allready was told that I cant get certain Bolts and stuff for the rear end. I did Score a "MOOSE" rear swingarm kit for the 84 Tecate. Everything, I think that is cool.
This cover looks blue but its Califorina Grape Purple, with polished letters.

if you have your old bolts you can go to a nut and bolt dealer, their are some local ones in some places, or someplace like a NAPA will be able to get the bolts for you, they werent special KAWASAKI made bolts, they got them from a manufacturer of fastners.

If it hasn't been mentioned: 250SX handlebar switch assembly (I think, it says discontinued on bike bandit, does that mean its discontinued by Honda?).

Also, maybe I'm just an idiot but I don't understand why we're compiling a list of discontinued parts..... :?

1985 250R - Rear caliper has a TORQUE LINK. The seals and bushings within that torque link are discontinued.

All yellow plastic for the Tri-Z except the rear fender are discontinued, at least thats what partsfish.com told me. I ordered a fender so we'll see.

front sprocket:early banshee
axle:banshee,warrior,blaster
rod:late 90's yamaha 490 (or something like that)
rear wheels:blaster 4/100 bell
brake rebuild seal kit: yamaha dealer
rear shock:warrior, or if you have an up top tank banshee
seat cover: upholstery shop
i cant remember anymore

i know when i spoke w pooh from service honda about 1-2 years ago.. he stated that honda was going to stop producing all of their stuff 86 and older, and only sell what they had in inventory.. at that point i bought a few of all of the plastics for 250r's atc's and 350x's along w the decals to make them look pretty... to have for a rainy day!

HMMM? Thats odd, I talked to a guy at HONDA years ago when he told me I was lucky to get a crank for something. He stated that HONDA makes only so many spare parts at the time of a production run and maybe for the next year but after that the only parts you were buying are actually original OEM parts made back in 85, 86, 87. I wonder what the real deal is??? To thing that they made 800,000 carburetors back in 85 and stored them this long seems a little off I must admit :? I wonder what there storage house actually looks like - must be amazing!!!

I have found out the following parts are obsolete for 1985 Honda 250SX.
1: Rear Brake Drum
2: Stator (alternator)
I also got conflicting info on the front brake drum not really sure if it is obsolete or not.

Hey guys I'm about half way through getting all this info together. Is there anything else anyone can add? Don't know if it'll be done in time for the next update, but I am getting it together. The slow part is getting the part numbers. When I get it all done, could I have some volunteers to call some places and make sure the parts are discontinued? I figure we'll split it off into Brands, and then by make and model.

taillight grommet(the ones that sit just below the bracket)
front fork brake line holder(the back one down by the wheel)

my brother just tried to get headlights for his 86 350X and it was a no go every place he called (dealerships) said discontinued and we havent been able to find any aftermarket lights?

Is that the guide or guard?? Did you mean the piece that mounts to the upper left triple clamp that is long (maybe 6" long and 1" wide) and guides the hose itself??

I just got through looking for swingarm bushings for the 83 ans 84 atc 250r. i was told good luck finding any. they are obsolete and have been for 2 years. you might get lucky enough to find some on the shelf of a dealership but none had them around here.

I hunted high and low for the wire brake guide for my 350x. I finally got one from service honda. I don't know if this is the same guide as on the 250r or not. The number partsfish showed for the 86 was discontinued, but the 85 diagram listed two part numbers. One of those I was able to get, and when it came in from service honda, it was not like the newer honda parts that come with the sticker on the bag. This part had the paper on the inside of the bag, so it had to be a old stock item.

I got my 200X cases apart to fix an weak internal kickstarter ratchet spring and when I go to bikebandit.com the main gear I need says discontinued. I would like to replace that while I have the motor apart. If it says discontinued is there no hope in even trying to order it. Does anyone know of what other source I could use to look for that part. Its OEM part # 176242-001

bottom end gaskets (also known as kit B) is no longer made and the topend ones are getting low (kit A)
and a few washers are also nolonger made but i will have to wait to post then till i pick up my parts as i cant remember what ones the guy said were no longer made lol

Theres the parts that I have attempted to find so far in this restoration process. I will add alot more I am sure as this project goes on because there is not much that I am not replacing. I will attempt to provide part numbers with every discountinued Item that I try to get ( or would have been ) for the 86 200x.

One side of the atc 350x tank scoops has been put on backorder. i cant remember witch, but when i look at ,y invoice, i'll tell ya. It will more than likley be discontinued like the tecate scoop was.

Booth sides of the 83,84 250R shrouds are discontinued, all rubbers except the gas tank rubbers are gone also! intake boot and air box to carb boot is also gone on that. on off light switch and kill switch is also gone!

I just got back into rebuilding an '82 - 250R. I will check with Honda Canada on monday, when they are back in from the holidays, to see what they have left in stock. They happen to be a client of mine and a friend, that used to be in marketing at Honda, now owns a dealership. I will keep you posted. Of course we don't have as many machines up here, so I don't hold out much luck for 20 year old machines. I figure that I will be making parts or modifying them to fit.

for an example there are dealers that still have parts forgotten about on there shelves. honda discontinued the axle for my 1979 fl250 odysses but i found it three weeeks later at a dealership in mississippi

A few of the parts or roadblocks I have ran into Restoring my 85 Tecate

Wiring Harness
Tail Light Assembly
Gas Tank
Brake Lever Adjuster Pin
Light Switch(But if you get a brand new one from a KDX motorcycle it Looks the same.

Just a few I have found so far, but I'm sure I will find more:

And As a bit of Information since none of the wiring harness is available I found a plug for the headlight at a auto parts store that is better than the original: I'm seriously considering making harness's myself and selling them.

1985-86 250R rear shock linkage bushing "collar B" part no. 52479-HA2-000 discontinued.

Service Honda sent me a letter to tell me this instead of e-mail. That makes no sense. And the letter beat the other part that I'm still waiting for. That place drives me nuts sometimes.

This is gonna be fun tracking those things down.

An easy way to check on discontinued parts is to check the diagram breakdowns for your bike on Bikebandit.com. It lists all of the parts that are discontinued.

If you go to Bike Bandit's site, and go under the OEM section, it is pretty up to date on what is discontinued for most models. At least the Hondas, in my experience. I've found this preferrable to dealing with my lousy local Honda dealer.

I'm sure there aren't made by the dealership and the factory isn't producing them anymore but that doesn't mean they aren't available. Post this in trikesylvania and not on this topic and you'll get more reponses.

I read a lot of the posts on here, but rarely get involved in the conversations. I recently found a dealership that had 13 front fender stabilizers for the 350x and 11 front fender stabilizers for the 85-86 ATC 250R. I bought them all !!!! I don't believe that statement is true. As far as the 350X and the 200X and 250R you may be correct. But, the 250SX is one model I can get most parts for and I would imagine a bunch of the other less popular ATC's still have a lot available also. However, in the next few years I'm certain that everything will be long gone.....:cry:
