I can not find a reliable machine shop in my area to bore my '85 Honda 70atc. I found this site on fleabay, gh discount atv, that offers a complete top end rebuild for $129.95 + $12.50 shipping. Send in your cylinder and/or head and they rebuild for $129.95 each. Tell me, has anyone you know ever used this service ? I appears to be a fair deal to me.

The cost so have a four stroke cylinder bored around here is definatly less than 30 bucks. Valve jobs are no more than $50 with two new valves. I guess it seems a little steep on the ebay deal, but I dont really know what the piston costs for a 70cc, but i'm guessing around 50. Add all that together, and its less than the rebuild kit, and you get two things done. Depends what shop you go to I guess, some overcharge. Just ask before jumping to it. Just thought i'd give you a hit.:)

hard to believe there is no machine shops or performance shops in your area . But that kit looked ok to me it also comes with gaskets ... so gaskets 19.99+piston 48.99+ valves 30? bore job $50?= 148.98
So if you measure your valves and inspect your seats and don't need the head done you are paying just what you should for the cylinder other than the shipping
seems fair to me if you can't trust some one local

Thanks you all for your input. This trike has been under water. Rusted cylinder, head, valves and guides. I thought the price for the head was a little high but, to clean (bead blast) this head would almost be worth it to me. I was hoping to hear from someone who has used this service before jumping on it myself. Thanks again ! Hayward

Hayward if it isn't a good core i believe its another $75 each so that means you could get a new motor or even a great replacement motor for alot less just my .02

you would probably be better off buying a lifan or other horizontal style motor, if your not interested in keeping it stock they make lay down style engines in range from 50-165cc

if motor was under water for any length of time,i would seriously consider buying a new replacement motor,it will be cheaper.the top end is one thing but the bottem end is overlooked all too often, crank bearings, ect.

Thanks to all. The more I think about the $300 it would end up costing for the top end, the more I'm considering holding out until I find a good replacement engine. I checked the Lifan engines and they did not offer a 70cc motor. I'll keep looking.

Check this out. A completely rebuilt exchange for about the same price as you are thinking for just the top end.

For $109 you can get this 88cc kit from Sterdy, then have your old head freshened up:

Sterdy Big Bore Kit (http://www.sterdyproducts.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=38&idproduct=76)

Sterdy has a very good reputation in the ATC 70 community.

ths issue i see is not jsut the top end, but what about the bottom end? if ti was underwater, the bottom end bearings and gear are trashed. i would also look into a laflin 110-125 motor swap.
you get:
5speed w/ manual clutch (big bonus on small bikes)
electric starter (bigggest advantage)
110-125cc motor (big advantage over stock honda 70cc or even 88cc big bore)
new MOTOR and bottom end!!! (enogh said right there)

http://www.hooperimports.com/dept.aspx?dept_id=02

can get auto shifting clutch or manual clutch. for the extra $150 you get NEW stuff that's more powerfull than old stuff. yea it bolts in.

We ran the Lifan thing by him in his original post about this trike but I guess he's set on trying to save the engine that was in it.

that engine is going to cost way more than it's worth. being underwater, the entire trans is shot. it's going to ne4ed pretty much compelte replacmeent. I hope he has deep pockets cause to recover completely a stock setup the way he's dreaming, it's going to cost him a ton of $$$ alone.
