I may have put the right cover on wrong or didn't have the kickstart gear set properly for the decompression cable but what ever happend there is a pin that goes beside the kickstarter gear that apparantly makes the decompression cable work. Long story short, this pin and the aluminum surrounding broke off. So if I try to use the decompression cable the kick starter gets stuck. Since the pin isn't there and not making the mechanism work correctly. I can by pass this and go without the decompression cable but i'd like to be able to utilize the decompression cable. Are the pin housings breaking a common thing on these? I feel like i' have 2 choices, buy anther right side cover in good shape or just not use the decompression mechanism. Any suggestions on this one?

That pin breaks from the cam being miss aligned on the splines (another, "I DIDN'T SET IT RIGHT ISSUE" :D)

That pin has one job and one job only, as the kicker reaches the bottom of the stroke it forces the kicker cam towards the spring and allows the cam to return to the position to begin again it's job at the top stroke of the kickstarter.

Doesn't seem to be any reliable way to fix it so I'll either go without a decompression cable or buy a new cover.

Those covers are short cash, I'm sure you can get one for 30$ shipped or so.... Make sure to get 85 or 86 correct though as the pivot arm/roll pin relation changes.

A sore leg really SUKS though......

Funny, the 86/87 200X motor has a flat in the splines with a punch mark that screws up the male splines. So, it's a one way fit deal or "idiot proof - no direct intended reference" but they made it fit just one way.

The 350X seems as if it can be installed 32 different ways and thats apparently a problem.

Didn't bend an EX or IN valve I hope, I'm actually praying the decomp crap was hanging it up.

But, time will tell my friend...... I look forward to pics of the carnage :D

As per request, here are picts of the carnage. Luckily I was barley turning the engine over by hand when the valves where hitting so it shouldn't have any damage that way. As soon as i felt the tention I backed off. Here is the pic of the inside of the case where thepin is broken off.

Of course your pictures are a whole lot better then the factory black and whites but it looks to me a little welding, drill and tap would fix it.
Unless i am missing something ???

john
I was actually thinking about drill and tap but then i worried that if it were to come loose and came off then it was rattling around inside the cases, it may cause a lot of damage. If I do drill and tap and use lock tight do you think it would be reliable?

I've had cast aluminium welded before (Is the cover magnesium?). There might be a good (not an amature) welder in your area that could weld that piece back on.

You are gonna spend about $20-40 for a good welder to weld and drill it. When you could replace it for $20-30 shipped from ebay
