Hey guys...

Just bought a new (to me) bike, not a trike but a 1985 Magna. Pretty pristine condition too. Had one before and absolutely loved it, took me about 12 years to find another one in great shape. Getting the Oil Cam mod soon (those of you familiar with the first gen Honda V4's know what I'm talking about) and a few other accessories.I figure guys here that rebuilt rotted out trike carcasses might have an idea for un-seizing a cable.

My problem is a seized choke cable...and I mean seized..won't budge at all. I've dumped some penetrating oil and WD-40 down it, but it still won't budge! I can still pull the chokes on from the side of the engine but that's a PITA. Looking for a new cable but could take a while to find. Anybody ever successfully get a cable working again, any kind of tool that can force oil down the cable? Or is it not worth the bother for now? I plan on completely rebuilding the bike next winter as a project anyways.

Here's a shot of it...

The best way i have found is to take the cable off and submerge the whole thing in penetrating oil for a while. Another way is to drill holes in the sleeves in a couple of spots and inject penetrating oil. but this leaves the cable more open to further corrosion.

You may end up unhooking the cable all together and try getting some penetrating oil down from the other side too. It will just take some time. They don't seize up overnight, so it usually takes a while for them to get unseized. Keep soaking it pretty good though every hour or so. Persistance is the key.
