I was pulling my kids in the garden trailer behind the 200s... (This was my first ride longer then 15 minutes since I got it)
About 45 minutes into the ride the bike shut off. Right before it was hesitating off of idle... Then 5 minutes later it just shut off. I waited 5 minutes or so and it tried to start once but thats all.. We had to push it back through the woods up the hill until we could get my sons little 2 stroke race ATV to pull it out the rest of the way.
I am going to let it sit about an hour to see if something is just getting hot or what. I am not sure what to look for.. I am not familiar with ATC's just yet. T

The hesitation part makes me think it was running outta fuel for some reason.
Outta gas? Cap not venting?
Was petcock in on or res position? If on did you try turning to res?
I realize this is simple stuff but it is the easiest and most practical place to start.

YEah I tried putting it on RES as well.. Still nothing.. Seems easier to pull start now as well.
Spark plug was black - sooty black .. not wet though. I checked the spark and it had more then enough spark. I was going to try a little gas in the plug hole and see if it fires up.
I was going to check the compression but I don't have the proper fitting for the spark plug hole. Anyone know what the thread pitch is on the spark plug?

Well i put fuel directly into the intake.. Not even a try to fire..
Its turning over way too easy now.. Something internal must have happened.. I am not sure if the timing jumped or what.. But I think I may have to rebuild it.
Anyone got a parts list of what I need to do the top end on this. I want to replace all the timing chain parts when I do it. Where is the cheapest place to get the parts as well?

That's a 12mm spark plug. Here's a tester, can't vouch for the quality. Sears has one also.

I don't need the full tester.. Just need the adapter. I have a Matco compression gauge but it doesn't come with metric fittings. Maybe I will buy this and hopefully it will fit my Matco set.

I had the same problem. Mine only had 14mm and 18mm. I made my own.

Well its not looking good for me.. Fuel is being blown out from the carb... Very easy to pull start now.. Even with staring fluid it will not start.. just blows out raw fuel.. Plenty of spark and fuel.
Does anyone have a suggestion where to get parts for the engine rebuild.
Thanks

before you go to deep, pull off the CDI cover, and check to see if the little pin is still holding the spark advance in place, mine died one night out on the trail and I could not get it to go at all, then a couple months later i checked out the spark advance and found the pin out, then it fired rite up. good luck

will do that in a few minutes.. Thanks

I read that you don't have a compression tester, but does it blow your finger off the hole when you turn it over? Ya got fuel and spark, only thing left is compression. May want to take it easy in case it turns out you broke a valve or threw one through the head of the piston.

^ agree,
although im just a noob,, but if very easy to turn over sounds like topend probs, maybe rings or piston, hopefully not though,,
im interested in finding out what your prob is,, cause mine is boggin and dying out too,, but does start again and runs fine most of time,,so likely just fuel probs...

i was acutally thinking that maybe one of the lifters list the adjuster. take the lifter caps off (top 2 caps on the to pend) and check the clearances and ensure one side did not loose the foot and nut. i seen them loosen up and fall off before.

Well I checked compression it was fine.. I tried all 4 of my brand new NGK spark plugs.. All were the same exact way.. The would not arc to the center electrode.. only to the side of the spark plug. I went to the Honda dealer ship and bought the same exact spark plug number.. When I compared the plugs with the new one the ceramic insert around the electrode was shorter then the one from the dealer..
I am not sure why but how the hell can NGK 4 plugs all cannot work when they are brand new.. But another one bought with the same part number just from the dealer and works great.. Granted I had to pay $5 for one spark plug instead or $2 but now I know it works.
Thanks everyone with their input.. I was really thinking the worse and you guys saved me yet again. I am taking it out for 3-4 hours tomorrow on some flat ground to try it out .. That away if it does the same thing again I can easily tow it back instead of pushing it up hill.
