Hey guys, what would cause my 110 to not suck air through the carb? Could it be timing, a bent valve or a tight valve? :wondering I have tried to set the intake valve at 004 and it still will not suck air into the carb. I can put my hand over the carb and pull and it doesnt pull on my hand any. Help me out here guys, I'm nearly finished with it and would like for it to be running when complete.

thanks

Sounds like there is a massive air leak or no compression. Valves, headgasket and other stuff can cause a lack of compression.

Well I had an ATV mechanic change the heads out, could he had missed the head gasket? Is there anyway I can test the motor without tearing it down to determine what is wrong? it will run, but it has to be started off of starter fluid but after that it will run on gas but it pops back through the carb and wont rev. Thanks for the help Dirtcrasher. I will probably call the mechanic this week and ask him if he will take a look at it. It ran like a top around January of 2008 just before the spark plug hole stripped out. So what I am getting at is that it ran great the last time it ran before the head was changed out along with the timing chain. If there is anyway I can check the motor to determine what is wrong, please let me know.

If you dont have the valves out of adjustment its the cam timing is off and/or a bent valve.
You are setting the timing at TDC before adjusting the valves, right? The valves should be released when adjusting.

is the plug in? just kidding.valves are not closing,or something serious.check valves first, easy fix if no mechanical damage.

when the old head was on the motor it ran great, so I'm guessing its something with the new(used) head that is on the motor. How do I go about checking the valves and the timing? does the left side cover of the engine have to come off to check the timing? thanks for helping guys and taking the time to answer my questions, I appreciate it.

I'm not so sure I'd bring it back to that mechanic. Granted, people do make mistakes but if it ran fine before the plug hole stripped it should run just as good now.
