I just got a new frame considering my boy bent mine. I decided i was going to throw a coat of black paint on it before i assembled it. I took a wire wheel to it and i like the way it looks bare metal. what do you think about just tossing on a coat of clear over the bare metal to give it a semi-polished look? or should i just paint it. i really want to powdercoat it all black but i dont have the cash...paint is the next best thing

paint it ... there are so many places that are hard to reach on a frame that you wont be happy with it and there is a process to follow when clear coating bare metal that would cost as much as powder ........ My vote is for paint with clear coat

If you clear coat bare metal (especially with spray bomb) it will be bad. Reason being, where ever the frame gets scratched or nicked - and it will, regardless, it will rust there.

If you are gonna spray bomb it, try these few simple steps:

Prep (sounds like you've done this already)

Primer

Spray bomb - lots of light coats

Spray bomb clear - this helps protect it and will make it shine better too!

If you are gonna spray bomb it, try these few simple steps:

Prep (sounds like you've done this already)

Primer (etching primer, from auto paint store, in spray can is fine)

Spray bomb - lots of light coats (try to order EPOXY spray paint, tentensly strong when dry!!)

Spray bomb clear - this helps protect it and will make it shine better too!

(same thing applies, try to get epoxy clear)

eastwood sells epoxy spray can paint

also you can spray the etching primer wait 10-30 mins then directly apply the paint
