Okay so My welcome post starting to get a tad of topic so I decided to make this thread to better get help. I finally went and got the engine code off the three wheeler to let you guys know for sure and not have to guess any more. Congrats erics350x for being dead on! My ATC is a 200x but it has the 200m engine on it from 1984 and the pullstart is broken. I am very angry because I have the slowest engine on a nice ATC. I am making plans to get a better engine on her but for now this one is staying till I grenade the hell out of it. So with that said....
1. what are my direct swap options as far as engines go?(350x,250sx,???)
2. Where in the hell would the starter would of been at?

I am wanting to go with either a xr 200 or 250 engine as of right now so I will be searching around here a ton. Pics found here (http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=98884)

Well after some more searching I am thinking of just going xr 200. It might get a little pricey but it will be worth it.

how will you handle the backwards kicker interfering with the rear fender?

xr200 would work ... get a side case off of a 200x for the forward kick
350x or a 250 sx will not work for you ... biggest you can get in there is a crf230

Hmm crf 230? I look into that. Yeah like he said with the side case. Or bump start like a I do now LOL.

You could just take the rear fender off every time you start it. On the 200x the rear fender takes a second to get off and on. It's a hassle, but changing out the kickstarter mechanism from the xr200 to 200x is a bigger hassle, and a big job in general, it's more involved than just swapping out the side cover.

Yeah thats a damn good idea to.

Well I got the brake unfroze but it still dont work. I cant get the cap off the resevoir so I had to pour some down the hose. I painted the exhaust real quick so It wont look like crap. I fixed the exhaust crack and the exhaust bolt missing in the head. The only thing now is im working on the pull start. Wish me luck!

There is a 1986 200X motor for $300 in Dover NH. I've no idea if he/she would ship it or not.

you do realise you can hop that 200m motor up jsu tliek any other motor right? and still have an electirc start and everything!

i hopepd my 200E up and it screams!!!!! i gotta swap the clutch out sometime in the near future. but i can promise you, it will run with a lot of bigger bikes. if you take your time you can get the m to run fine and fast.

pointers:
carb and intake
exhaust
bore/hone install 10.5:1 weisco piston
web stage2 or 3 cam
web hardened rockers
web springs and titanium retainers

good valve job. I did a CNC valve job with some minor port cleaning and bowl matching up.

my top end was about $785 in parts and machining alone but I'm 100% glad i did it. the bike is awesome!!!!

i can pull the choke, tap the starter button and vroom she runs perfectly and puring. I need to get a vid for you guys if it. it's a nice bike. needs cosmetic restore now, but i'llget to it.. eventually. ;)

Yes I realize that they are very similer engines and that I could but the thing is that...
1. I want a manual clutch
2. I dont have the electric start hooked or even desire to have it hooked.
3. I like the 6 speed trans in the xr 200.

So I went yesterday and fixed some thing and found some more stuff that wrong LOL.

Things I did:
1. Unlocked the rear caliper and brake assembly
2.fixed the pullstart and fitted it with covered steel cable :beer
3.quick painted my exhaust.
4.fixed exhasut leak
5.fixed missing exhaust stud on the head.
6. fixed leaking petcock

Things to do still:
1. rear sprocket is loose and i cant get it to tighten.
2. rear caliper still wont actually work
3. headlight needs to be fixed
4. the covers on the brake resavoir are stripped and cant get them off to add fluid
5. THE CARB SUCKS! I cant get the damn thing right. I took it apart and cleaned the entire thing. When I flip the choke on it revs up and idles really high when i flip off it will bearley stay running. Then it will idles a little then rev up all by it self then go back down and die. It pops and backfires sometimes as well. I am not real good with carbs but I can usually get them pretty good with out help. I am thinking maybe since I have the 200m engine it might still have the carb from the 200x and it giving me greif?
6. the trans is acting weird, it acts like a car with a high TC. I will rev up then catch and pop a wheelie, it also really hard to get through the gears. I am thinking that it might need some fluid?

Here are some pics from the exhaust paint. and the right foot peg assembly that the rigged with a socket for the brake...:wondering

So for right now it will be fine but I would like to start gathering parts for the rebuild this winter. So here go's the ruff list. Any suggestions or critisism go ahead and let it out.
1. xr 200 complete engine and trans.
2. recover seat with gripper material
3. fab and weld up new grab bar.
4. complete disassembly and paint the entire frame, gas tank, and other small parts.
5. new rear plastics.
6. new tires.
7. brake pads.
thats all I can ponder up now...

Alright I was pondering and now I am thinking that I could just even go with the case of the xr200 to get the trans and bottom end and then use my head with a higher compression piston in it. Just throwing out thoughts. It's not that I have anything against auto trans ot anything I just much prefer and feel more comfy on a manual. I really will just take what comes up first. 200x engine or xr200 engine. either way it will get rebuilt and thrown on. I also need some sport tires as well.

sounds to me like you have a bad o ring between your carb and motor (sucking air ) The brake pedal on the conversion can get tricky so if what you have will work while you are running the auto don't mess with it because if you put in a 200x motor the pedal will pivot on the motor

Ahhh, now I know why they did that with the brake. Ill check into it more soon, it was 11 by time I got the thing started so I really didnt want to mess with it. 1 thing I willadd is that I also plan on doing a custom exhaust on it once Im done putting what ever engine I decide on it. Just something simple but with a nicer silencer and a expansion on the header. My freind is going to give me his old silencer off his 450r so that would look pretty nice....Its titaium:w00t:
