ok people. i have had some bad luck with my 84 250r. it locked up on me again a while back. i am in the process of trying to figure out what is going on. i put everything together again with new gaskets. put 6 lbs of air pressure in through the intake. with the exhuast plugged off. i have air coming up through the head bolt nuts and the threads. and it is doing this on all 6 studs.
so my question is what the heck. do i need to put some thread sealant on the threads ? or do i have a further problem? this is the only leak i can find.
thanks

Those are blind holes and there should be no way for air to get into them. However if you're head gasket is leaking you may have some air coming up from there. What is you're head nuts torqued to?

Yeah Daddio is on the right track, your head gasket or that surface at least has something wrong with it allowing the air from the cylinder to seap in under/over the gasket and then to the holes where the studs are.

either the base gasket is bad or the head gasket is bad. check both out and juyst replace them both, they are sorta cheap.

well to give an update here. i took the head back off. sprayed some of that sopper gasket pray onto the head gasket and reassembled. pressure tested to 6lbs and it held for like 15 minutes with no problem.
i will still be taking my head to the machine shop to make sure it is flat before i do a final reassembly. thanks to all and i will update with information.
now comes jetting. fun fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
