1984 honda 200es clutch????

Wondering if I could maybe get some confirmation on something. I was reading another thread about the clutch slipping at take off and something spinning in the engine after it is shut off and then stopping after a few seconds and free-wheeling down a hill and so on. An 84 big red I just aquired has all those symptoms and the thread said to replace a part in the one way clutch and said it was part number 14 on the schematic. So my question is can anyone tell me if that is the correct part I would need and should this solve the problem. Hoping someone can give me some insight on this before I spend $100 bucks on the part considering thats more than half of what I paid for the whole bike. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

that is 100% correct, it costs $100 to repalce and yes that's the problem. that's probebly why you got a running bigred so cheap.....

Thanks for the info if $120 is going to fix it I guess I shouldn't complain for what I paid for it. Would I just need that part and a new gasket or is there probably some other parts needed? On a scale of 1-10 10 being the hardest how difficult of a job is this to do. I have a clymer manual that gives pretty good step by step instructions. Thanks

I haven't seen too many of these clutches go bad myself and I have worked on a carp load of machines ( over 20 years ). You probably could get a good used one for a lot less. I know Pickle has quite a few good ones. ;)

Turns out one of the the three master links was broke that holds the clutch shoe together and the reverse thread nut was barely hand tight so somebody was messing around in there at one time. I have to wait a few days for a gasket and master link then put it back together and see what happens.

if i remember right that nut needs "dented" in at a spot with a hammer and punch to prevent it from loosening.

The nut that was on there is dented but I don't think it should have been that loose. Should I put some loctite on it just in case? Or do I have to get a new nut?
