View Full Version : Help Me Please...assembly Question
Guys im putting my 1985 250r motor together and my manual is calling for a spacer INSIDE the crankcase ON THE CRANK on the RIGHT side.
It shows a pic of them sliding this spacer on the crank before putting the right case half on. Im looking thru my parts and NOT seeing this.
I have also looked thru the fiche on every schematic and not seeing it either.
Again, an internal spacer that would go on the crank BEFORE it goes thru the bearing and seal.
WTF?
trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro...I need to figure this out...cant keep going until I know.
I know lots of you have done the bottom end on your 250r.
Did you put a spacer directly on the crank...inside the right case?
This has ruined my day....what is up with this? They are showing a spacer going onto the crank on the left before the crank it put through the other case half. It doesnt make sense...how would it clear the bearing and seal?
The only spacer collar thing I have is the one shown on the lower right of the picture...it goes in EXTERNALLY after the cases are mated.
But they look the same....plus I looked on all the fiche and there is no spacer shown so if I need it I cant even order it. The only way I would have lost it was to throw it away with my old crank which is unlikely.
Im thinking this has to be an error in the service manual.
Help me out

Maybe the Honda service manual can help you out.

Nothing goes next to the crank, internally...... It's probably the spacer for the oil seal behind the main drive gear. I think it's just the way there showing it.
Dude...thank you so much for the straight answer. That was my conclusion as well...there is NO WAY the crank would go thru how they show it. That messed up my rebuild yesterday....oh well.
One more issue Dirtcrasher...there are a couple bearings that didnt seat completely flush....they would not go down any further...one on each case side. They are both the same bearing and have yellow backs on them. Is this normal?
Thanks a ton man!

They may not sit flush, but you better make sure they're buried. Thats why I usually freeze them until I'm ready to go. The yellow seals sometimes are on both sides but most of the time if there is only 1, they seem to be on the back or blind side.
If you know your buried, your good. Honestly, thats why it's best to disassemble a short time before you get your parts or you second guess yourself......
Yeah..I froze them and tapped em in pretty good. They both stick up the same so I figured they are supposed to a bit. This whole project has just been one problem after the next so im paranoid now haha. Dont wanna get it all bolted up and have a problem.
Thanks for all your help, I ended up using a piece of glass and emery on the cases a bit. Not much but made em a little better. Gonna really gunk up the surfaces and get a try to get a good seal. Its been 2 months now and I am almost done.
