Why is the kx cylinder preferred over a stock tecate? also has anyone had luck using a 84 kx cylinder head on an 85 tecate with the different coolant port.

kx cylinder had split exhaust and most likely aggressive porting. Typically MX bikes put out more power in stock form.

I ran 84 KX complete motor on T3 and never noticed any issue with the coolant port. It was not pointed up right? If it came close to the pipe I wrapped it with an extra cut piece of radiator hose

Back in the day Jimmy White and Team Green use to run the KX cylinder instead of the Tecate. I remember reading an article about it. It gives you more top end but you lose a little bottom end, which they tried to fix with a reed spacer. I found a new KX cylinder on ebay a few years back but have yet to install it. As noted above, it has a wider, bridged exhaust port plus two auxiliary exhaust ports on either side of the main. I'm hoping to find a Sprock cool head before I install it.

I called Wiseco and they clarified that the kx250 and kxt 250 piston kits are identical so it will work if anyone was wondering

Comparing the KX to the KXT jug. The only difference is the exhaust port design. Everything is identical. These ports will let it breath more and make more power. It'll happily except high comp. It does sacrifice a little bottom end, but nothing to be concerned about. With the right carb and pipe combo, they can really scream.

As for the heads, i don't know if i got KX or KXT heads with them. They all look the same to me.
