Airboxes.

I've noticed that most on here run airboxes and not an open filter, so I figured there must be something to that and I got one from a member to put on my Tecate, so what's the scoop? Tune better? Riding conditions? I just seen most T3's with them on there, so I'd better get on the bus.

I will say that an open element (K&N, UNI) breathes 100% better than the stock airbox. The problem with an open element is the rear shock is in the way. The best way would be to build an extension to move the filter behind the shock. Like the ESR kit for the atc250R.

I have the Uni, and I spose' it works fine, but I don't know any better. Also, the rain and snow (a little mixed today) are here so I wanted to research the air box. Plus I got it for a very good price. Don't look as cool though, lucky I'm so good lookin'.

Just something else for consider~ ration, if you are NOT gonna use a air box.
Be sure to give the carb some support some where so it is not relying on the intake boot alone for support.
Even if you have one of my reproduction intake boots or a like new O.E.M. boot, it will raise holy hell on your intake boot it if not properly secured at the carb area. Factor in a non O.E.M. carb to intake boot clamp (like a standard hose clamp that will cut into the bottom of the intake boot are quickly) and no support,,, recipee for trouble IMO

Thanks jeswinehart, I actually pondered that, but figured the dude before me may have known what he was doin'. Cutting with the hose clamp was a good warning, didn't think about that. I'll have to see what pans out with the action I got goin' on. Sent $ and having the dude hold an 84' for me. If it's in decent runnin' order, it'll be my trail and daily runner. The 85' is home, but motor is getting rebuilt, may leave on the open UNI iffin' I have the 84' for snow riding. Also havin' a motor shipped up from CA. I know one of these is going to be built to be snorty (the one getting rebuilt is as close to stock as I can keep it). Have to figure out the support for the open, some thing that looks decent (no bailing twine or duct tape!).

Aren't those pretty rare? & don't tease me! Seen on on the Tecatekids build (our group avatar) so I know they are top notch. I'm happy with all the extra parts that came with my trike, but I didn't get anything rare except a 6-pack rack.
