Another type of Tecate?

I was wondering if anyone has put a 4-sroke motor in a Tecate? With an automatic type clutch? I am so sick of Honda motors and would like to have a Tecate, with four-stroke Kawasaki motor for my daughter. A 200x runs as much $ as a Tecate after you replace the crappy clutch, kicker, tranny, carrier bearings, motors. I have had no luck with Honda. Not that I don't like em', they just aren't for me. The Tecate chasis is lighter and smaller than the 200x and a roller can be picked up for even less sometimes. Any Ideas fellas?

I have no idea about a 4-stroke swap to the tecate, but maybe look into a mojave 250 motor? Like I said, I have no idea if that motor would work or not, but it seems like a good candidate for something your daughter could handle.

I think the mojave motor in a Tecate frame would be awesome.

Thanks guys, great suggestion. One of the reasons I ask, the dude we got the 125m from, had a klt 200 and was no good, but had a 250 motor that ran as a spare. Also I have some intrest in the 84-85 Kawasaki 110 a new member posted on here and really liked it. Not bashin' Hondas, but they build a crappy motor and it is getting expensive. The auto-x is now on it's 4th so that's not coincidence. How old are some of the mojave's? They within' reason?, I've never even seen a used one in this area, be keepin' my eye's open now.

It could possibly be an easier swap to put a KX 125 motor in, althogh not the 4T your after, it may be an easier fit and a bit milder than the 250 but you would be lacking the auto clutch, or perhaps a newer KX 125 motor and a Rekluse clutch

Good thinkin' Huffie. I already ran that by my son, because he loves the 2-strokes and he is a little to confident for a 250cc at this point. But for my daughter she needs an auto type motor. And, admittedly, we are not rich. I'm not a good internal mechanic, but do metal by trade and can possibly line it all up, use existing electrical with new motor, and fab new motor mounts etc. (and I like painting and polishing it all nice). I just do not know what motors may fit with Kawasaki, and so I thank you guys for your help and suggestions. Oh, and looked closely at my buddies cr 125 and it almost lines up perfect, not that I want a honda motor, but I can imagine the kx will bolt up....maybe.

I would think a pipey 125 wouldn't be so great. Maybe if it was geared way down, but a tecate is a lot heavier than a bike. It would probably be fun, but not user friendly. I didn't realize you were looking for an auto clutch, a mojave motor is a liquid cooled 4 stroke witha clutch, sort of an entry level sport machine, probably similar in power to a stock blaster. If you're any good with making motor mounts, and fabbing a pipe setup that will work (much easier with a 4 stroke) you can pretty much make any similar size motor fit as long as the drive gear is on the correct side. A blaster motor with a little work done to it could be a good candidate for your son.

The klt250 four stroke motor also had a manual clutch.

Thanks guys, I called some member buddies. Not many Kawasaki options for the daughter. And thanks for the relentless search. I have been looking around at past and present Kawasaki's and can't seem to locate an auto clutch motor by them that isn't rediculous. Heck, I could build a drag trike. I'm just a little sour on the honda. I really dig the Kawasaki engineering and design. Can't figure why honda did some things the way they did and they were the leader in the industry in production. It really makes my life difficult. I thought a stable of Kawasaki's would simplify things, less wrenchin' more riding. If you guys do come across something holler at me, this one's tough. Thanks-
