Lately I have been noticing a crappy idle with my bike. I scrubbed the carb CLEAN, soaking the metal components in cleaner overnight (rubbers didn't get soaked). When it's cold, it won't even idle at all (especially with the choke on) so I have to keep a little gas on just to keep it idling. Once it warms up after about a minute, it will run on its own (off of choke), but the idle is rather high, nothing like what it should be. I tried adjusting the idle on the carb (Mikuni flatslide 38mm), but it either idles high, or it just doesn't idle at all. What do the minds of 3WW 84-87 Kawasaki KXT250 A1/A1/B1/B2 Tecate Group think? The intake boot is pretty cracked on the outside, but the inside is smooth as can be. The reeds also sit good, none of them are bent up, and they are clean as a whistle too.
air leak would be my guess. the carb boot on my 84 was cracked on the outside and smooth with no visual cracking inside but when spayed the boot with (I think pb blaster it was all I had) The engine died. the engine blew not too long after.
Yeah, I don't have anything to spray around the intake boot, besides WD-40, and it isn't all that great for finding air leaks.
Okay, I got a can of starting fluid today and began spraying it around the intake boot. No change in idle, and the plug was copper in color. Sprayed a quick shot into the air filter, and it almost died instantly.
check base gasket.
