whats up with the acorn non acorn lug nuts ,got 2 of one and one of another on my big red 250es p.s. almost done with paint and got front maier fender on way but already have plastic tank on it and its pitted from down under ,,has anybody ever wet sanded with 1500 or other and plastic painted it and had it turn out any good??
Yes I have painted with success - use "Fusion" I have wet sanded with 2000. In 85 they used the 17mm flat lugs and in 86 they changed to the "acorn" style nuts. I personally have changed mine to the acorn. The flat lugs were bad about loosening up- or so I was told. The acorn nuts force the rim to be centered on each of the lug bolts where as the flat did not.
I do body work for a living been doing it got over 10 years. you can paint plastic. to do so get your self a red stotch bright pad and something to aid your pad. there are things you can buy but for a cheap alt "comment" works. 1500 an 2000 is to light of a paper plus is hard to get in tight places. use plastic paint with a fan tip. 2 coats is plenty dont go thick it will peel. also make sure its not on any plasric that moves but big reds are well bolted down. when filling the tank with gas DO NOT GET IT ON THE PAINT! also dont use dupli color
almost forgot make sure you clean with a wax an grease remover. not lacqure thinner. one to wipe an one to dry befor it flashes dry. with a lent free cloth like a cut up tee not a paper towle
thanks for the info guys, got new fender and reassemble whole front end this wkend and do the rear brakes to, will think about hot bath with the tank and wet dry sand paper--dont worry will wear swimtrunks, gotta think bout safety rite.
