See many 450/500's stuffed in Honda's and Yamaha's. Not many Tecate's with 500cc. Lots of Tecate project bikes for cheap too. Is this a T3 moral no-no? Reason being, my Tecate motor will be well over a grand to rebuild (which is more than worth it for my trike), and I spotted a freshly rebuilt 84' kx 500 for $1500, and this whole bike was in excellent condition. Are our trikes so bad ass we don't need it?, lol!
A bike is never bad ass enough until it has a 500 in it lol. Not sure what the swap involves, but i'd like to see it.
Seen the threads on the kx to trike, and even seen a kxt with a 500 motor drag racing in Oregon? But must be something unorthodox for T3 owners to not do it. Lots of project Tecates, with most eveything there for a start and these guys can turn a wrench too.
Lots of work and tons of vibration.....its almost to much, as a healthy well tuned 250 is plenty fast! I wouldnt discourage anyone wanting to make the swap, its just not for me! The 86 is the way to go with a split down tube, 3Razors I believe makes the motor mounts as well.
That makes tons of sense Tecate 50, when my 10 year (11on tues.) rides mine he hates the vibration, but still have a competitve bell dinging in my head if I was a good enough hand to do it.
I would like to have this one.. I've always had the urge to build one but the KX500 motors around are as expensive as a running Tecate, soo...
Now see, that's what I'm talkin' about, thanx dcreel. It looks fine and sounds good, but looks (by the way he was so cautious) to be too much. I wonder what fab has to be done. I found a nice 82 kx 500 with a rebuilt top end (this whole bike was taken very good care of), and looked nice!, for listed price of $1500. That's how much a motor (minimum) is goin' to cost me to be rebuilt. That's why I started daydreaming I spose'. I really don't think it would be safe for me, but still cool none the less.
