a while back i read that u can use one or two of the gears on the kx 250 tranny for the tecate but im not sure?
1st,2nd,3rd or you can use the whole kx tranny. the output gear off the crank and clutch basket gears differ between the two also
and will this help my bike power and speed wise
83 kx trans is different, but, can be used as a complete swap. 84 kx is same as 84-85 kxt. Ratios are however the same for all. The primary drive ratio is taller on all kx models, which requires the use of kx basket too. They do not interchange, and there is no reason to use the taller geared kx set. neither makes any more power, as power is created exclusively by the engine. Kawasaki really nailed the internal ratios on the first gen machines. These engines can be made to make trementous power with very little displacement.
so what would be a good way to get extra power for cheap for this bike 200 to 400 price range
tecate z,take a look at the parts fiche for the kx and the kxt. 1st 2nd and 3rd are the same ratio however 4th and 5th are not. my bigwheel 2cate runs a kx trans with the crank gear and clutch basket from a tecate,I have been clocked at 80 mph on the pavement with slight gearing changes.
Perhaps re gear the Tecate?
im running 13 38 gearing so wtith the trans is there a higher gear for better speed or what
