i have a 1985 tecate and i cant seem to keep it running. getting spark, timing is right, getting fuel. i cant kick start it but when i pull start it it will sometimes fire up and go, then after not too long it will die on me again.i dont have a kill switch or a on and off switch hooked up but idk if that would be the problem.
From symptoms you have describe Stephen,,, IMO, check flywheel key way and/or for loose magnets in flywheel. If you first off pull the plug and have spark when hand kicking over that would tell me it is firing but at the wrong time which a sheared/missing key way and/or magnets loose in flywheel (all bunched up).
ive checked the flywheel and have timing lined up and getting spark. should i pull the head off and check cylinder and see if there is any play between the cylinder and wall?
A compression test would the best way to determine piston/ring slop. You may want to read up on this process so you can check the crank seals. Whats the history on this trike ? Did it run for you before or you just picked it up not running ? http://www.3wheelerworld.com/threads...r-for-about-20
why cant it be kicked?also when it dies does it start right back up?
download the manual and perform a stator test to make sure it's within spec. I have gone through 3 myself in the past year and all had different symtoms.
story is my girlfriesnds brother had it and messed with it and it was running before. then i bought it off of him. i took the head off to check the cylinder and it seems that there is a little play so im gonna go threw and see if i can just replace the rings. hopefully that will work (crosses fingers)
i got the piston out and it looks pritty torn up. couges everywhere. now i need to have it bored out and a new piston. this thing just keeps costing me money.
