Have an '83 Big Red...I have had it running even though was getting oil in the pull cord. However, today it will not stay running. I have read that t here are seals and possibly gaskets that may need to be replaced. Has anyone else had this type of problem? Does anyone know how to remove the pull cord housing (or open it) in order to get to such seals?? I believe that my spark plug may have been fouled due to oil getting to it... any suggestions there?? Thank!!
Just take the bolts out of the housing cover to get it off. There are seals and you can buy a seal kit off ebay or just web search it to find a store. I got seal & gasket kit for 29.99 & free shipping. Also, go to oscarmayer.net to download and print a service manual. It's worth it! Hope this helps. I have an '83 big red also. Might be time for piston rings if your plug is getting oil fouled.
