    Original Tires finally giving out

The original Ohtsu tires on my 1982 200 were getting a bit dry rotted but were functioning fine. Yesterday, one of the back tires was flat with a hole in the sidewall. When I went to plug the tire, it tore on the crack line, disintegrated and the then tread separated from the sidewall. So if my ATC was made in 1981, that puts the tires at 28 years old--not a bad run at all I would say. Honda did build these things to last-right down to the tires.

I have some Cheng Shin's on the way and new O rings for the split rims so hopefully those will last the next 30 years.

why not just get a set of trail-pr0s, which will easily outlast you, your children, their children and probably even human civilization.

When everything else goes 'ka-boom' one day only the trail-pr0's will be left standing.

I've been building an underground bomb shelter lined with trail-pr0's .. I know when the apocalypse comes I'll be safe.

I know those are great tires, but I've been spending too much $$$ on toys and I have to pinch pennies now. The Cheng Shins we're $45/ea shipped so I can't complain.

I've seen at least a half dozen of the front tires from 84 - older 200x's and 250r's dry rot to the point of no return in the last couple years, they seem to hit a wall in their life span as well.

I got in the Cheng Shin C829 tires as well as the new O rings for the rims today. I tackled the job and it took a few hrs. I like the split rims because I like to do things myself. The hardest thing was getting the bead broke. I had to go to the auto parts store and pick up a tire iron. I then removed the valve and jumped up and down on the sidewalls while spraying it with a hose. The new tires are a bit smaller even though the size is stock.
