    tire questions

i'm looking at buying some new track (mx) tires. for years i've used turf tammers and have always liked them. i even compared them to holeshots and i still prefure the tammers. however i have not tried anything else newer that has come out. does anyone have any experiance with the following tires and what is your opinion

    turf tammers
    knarly (kenda)
    klaw (kenda)

i've tried, fast treckers, holeshots, razors, domminators,...nope

    i'm leaning towards the knarly

I like the looks of the Klaw XCR's. The Knarly's would probably get better traction in the corners though.

*My first choice would've been the Holeshot XCT But they are heavy...

I haven't tried the others but i'm very impressed with the turf tamers on my Z. They don't cost that much and hook up great, works for me!

Honestly Bill, and you've probably already ran these before, but out of all the tires I've used for MX like conditions, and anywheres else, the stock TRX250R tires seem to work extremely well.

.... I know that on those Kendas besides the tread pattern being different from each other .... one is a much softer compound than the other - but I'll be damned if I know which is which.

well all the holeshots and copies (domminator, razor) i tried actually got too much traction for a trike. it causes a lot more wheel stand and high side in the corners. turf tammers get pretty good forword traction and they slid real well with little wheel stand or high siding.

i do know this what works on a trike does not necesarally work on a quad and visa versa. quads have a lighter weight bias in the rear then do trikes. therefore they need a tire that grabs more for traction whereas a trike has more weight the same tire will get even more traction and sometimes too much can be bad like in the turns.

i like the look of the knarly it has a good knob design and spacing with horizontal pattern good for sliding. the only problem is i need a 18" tire and they only come in 20". the klaw looks like it will get to much traction and the diaganal pattern is not the best for sliding a trike, but it comes in 18"

i'll probably end up just sticking to custom grooved turf tammers.

last year at haspin Trike had holeshots on his Z400 and i had 20" tammers on my 350X it was real muddy and wet that real slippery greasy type of mud. i was walking right up the hills and his quad was having all types of traction problems one hill it took him over 10 attempts to get over. and it was not because of his skills or the quad but a lack of traction.

Bill, so you recommend Turf Tamers for a 350x (used mostly for trail riding, XC, etc)?

I run Dunlop kt877 20x10-9 on my 86 200x..... they work GREAT in the mud and they are even better for speed and taking corners fast! they clean off fast and they are lower profile tires so you can get more speed rathen than power....but they work great and I would definately buy another st if I need to!!!!! plus they LOOK awesome! (in my opinion) lol Here are a few pics of them on my 86 200x....

for trail riding ? no. i've used them in the woods and in certain conditions they are good. but they do not wear good. nor would i pick them as my sole tire. if i had to pick one all around trail tire for a 350X...20" kenda vipers.

What about some lawn mower tires like the old school racers use to use? Not enough hookup?
