    black insides?

i pulled my motor apart yesterday because i had a couple oil leaks. It turned into me needing a new piston and valves too....my question is...the whole inside my motor is black......almost like it was spray painted...is this normal? all the pictures ive seen people post on here of the insides of their motor was shiny......and if its not normal...whats the easiest and most cost efficient way to get rid of it? im on a budget with a limited amount of tools

the black coudl also be burned oil as it was always ran low on oil and never proeprly changed. i seen this a coupel of times on a trike. looked to be almost painted but when cleaned it came off, jsut took a while. i ended up using the cases, gearing and repalcing every bearing, gasket, seal and soft component for the guy. oin the end it costed him about $980 in parts and labor. took a long while to clean too.

I've seen some internal honda engine cases and covers that had oversray on the insides. But in those cases, not all of the insides were black. I know some people who build high performance engines often use a coating on the inside of their engines to help with the oil returning to the oil pump faster but that coating is usally a dull red color not black. I think your engine just needs a real good soaking in a parts degreaser tank or maybe a nice steam cleaning.
