Need help

Earlier today i was riding in the mud with my 200s and it was running fine. Than 30 minutes ago i took a ride to my neighbors and on my way back i put it in nuetral to go open a gate and it died while i was opening the gate. so i just wheeled it through, closed the gate and tryed to start it up. all i got was a few coughs and i kept on trying to start it up and all it would do is give me a few coughs even if i held the throttle down some. what do you guys think it is? what should i look at first.

Did it run out of gas? What happens if you put the petcock on the "reserve" setting? Are you running a in-line fuel filter on the fuel hose?

What I would do is get starting fluid and sand the carbon off the plug with a fine sand paper. Unless you replace the plug. Starting fluid will not damage engine it has lubricant in it. It smells bad but of you spray your plug with it as soon as the electric hit that it will fire right up. Now if it fires up with starting fluid and shuts off then you got a fuel problem. if your fuel is on then most likely your jet is clogged . So then you need carb cleaner from auto parts store. Cleaning the carb is easy you just spray out every little hole you see. if you take the bottom off make sure your pin doesn't fall out of your floats. I'm hoping the starting fluid gets the sucking force going and gives you plenty of fuel to run your bike. Once you start the bike the suction begins on the carb to the intake. Best Reguards , Steve

Using starter fluids such as ether based or any starter fluid made for starting 4 stroke engines will cause severe damage to a two stroke motor. Normal engine starter fluid should not be used in a two stroke is because it does not contain enough lubricating properties to protect the piston and cylinder walls. A 4-stroke engine gets oil from the crank case and it is moved up and down on the cylinder walls to keep it lubricated. Every upward motion a piston makes in a 4-stroke engine carries oil to the cylinder walls to lube the piston and cylinder; this means the engine is automatically lubricated so when you spray starter fluid in to start the motor the cylinder walls have oil on them. Two strokes are lubed by a gas and oil mixture, they do not have oil in their crank case so if you don’t have gas and oil mixed to start the engine you will not have lubrication between the piston and cylinder walls, this will cause major scoring on the pistons and the cylinders. In conclusion, use only WD40 as a starter fluid for your two stroke engines. It contains enough petroleum in its formula to protect your engine on start up.

So if he cleans the plug up with sandpaper and sprays the plug with ether and it ignites when it is kicked over it's a fuel problem. I guess it couldn't be a fouled up plug then since he cleaned it with the sandpaper though, right?

if you clean it with sand paper and it runs its fine but adding starting fluid helps. Starting fluid will help clean the carbon off the plug to. It does for me. this might be dumb of me BUT USE SANDPAPER THEN STARTING FLUID LMFAO.

I have a plug problem with my 200e big red, usally runs all day. Next day it wont start. plug is fouled with carbon. if i clean it off with a tooth brush and Kerosene then wipe it down with some paper towel its good to go. dont like using sand paper it can wear down metal. can't adjust my carb mixture anymore, just waiting for a new carb then it'll be all good.

The guys trike dies and you can just diagnose it over the computer? You must be the best mechanic ever. So, it couldn't be a coil, bad plug wire, loose ground, water in the fuel, low compression, clogged fuel screen, clogged tank vent, dirty air filter, etc? I'm impressed that you were able to weed everything out with just the statement "My trike died"...

All starting fluid is now sold with upper lubricant, it wont hurt a 4-stroke!

thanks eric . I'm just trying to let this dude know that if it washed oil of the cylinder walls they wouldn't use it in cars either. It's completely safe for a 200s
