MY nontrike build. LOOKING LIKE A TRUCK 10/4/10

I am starting a 1929 ford pickup. I thought I would share some pics of the start of it. A good friend of mine is in the pics and he is the brains behind the build. We are going to stretch this to a 4 door and using Tall T doors on it.

    Nontrike build updates 9/10/10

I will keep it updated for sure. Working on getting the suspension brackets all welded in this week. Gotta start the project of drilling holes into my straight axle.

Wouldnt one desire to build this type of frame on a jig table that is plumb level?

this wont see the road for some time. No need for jig table. lots of measuring and tweeking before the tack weld. Measure 50 times weld once. Been more than a few rods built without use of a table. That 31 in the backround was a scratch build also. Really want to get my hands on a flathead V8 if anyone knows of one.
Maybe next summer you will see this hit the road Russ

I hope it sits about 6" from the road when complete. The object is to make the frame the lowest point on the truck so if I hit bottom it will not do any damage. Next its time to mount the cowl and get the motor mounts welded in and drop in the mock motor. Tack weld the front doors on and start to build the door supports for the rear doors. The rear doors will swing suicide. Gonna try to make the doors lock like a newer truck to i dont have to have a bar inbetween the two doors. Much nicer and cleaner look without that.

What an awesome project, I soooooo wish I could be involved with something like that!!

    Mad skills going on there

My only thought was that one frame offset, why so short? There isn't much overlap for strength even with the bars in place transferring the torque??

I'm willing to bet that more gussets will be added, just not in this picture.

My dad still has ALLOT of 30's ford parts and a 56 bird that i know DAM WELL he'll never finish. I so wish he'd hand me the ball...........

I may not have all the funds right now, but the rough build with metal and welding isn't that expensive. It's the performance parts and finish that suk up thousands.

Anyhow, NICE WORK!! I love it!! Wish I could get my hands into it. Trikes are fun but I LOVE to fabricate!!
