Have you checked compression on the engine, it should be around 128psi and set the air/fuel mixture screw on the carburetor to 1 1/4 turns out from closed and clip position for the jet needle should be third notch from top, also check the fuel petcock is flowing gas correctly and on the YT 175 there is a Mikuni fuel pump, check that that is pumping gas correctly. Do you have a manual?

I don't think it's a clutch problem but you can try adjusting it to see if it helps, first remove the small side cover then the Haynes repair manual says to adjust the clutch by adjusting the release mechanism by tightening the inner nut until the bolt can't be turned with your fingers but has no thrust play (in-and-out). Tighten the outer nut against the inner nut . If the bolt is too loose, the clutch will drag. If it is too tight, the clutch will slip.

If want to pick up a manual this is where I got mine.

In another 5 days he will not be able to fix the 250r and it will be " i traded that pos 250r for a ??? wouldnt ever look back to honda for an atc ever again thanks anyway."
Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
