85 Tri-z Clutch How to tell if its good by looking at it

How can you tell by looking at a clutch for an 85 Tri-z if it is good or bad? is it like looking at brake pads or are there other features to look at?
Can you take a clutch off by simply removing the center bolt so it all comes out in one piece or does it come out in several pieces?

Remove the six bolts from the clutch "pressure plate". These bolts have springs. There torque value is 7-10lbs. Do not touch the setting the the push rod adjuster (phillips head with 10mm nut and lock washer in the center of the pressure plate).

Now you will see you clutch "boss". The fibers and plates are now easily removed. Check to see if the fibers are glazed or burnt. Check for "heat" or bluing in the steels (plates).

If the basket needs to come off thats pretty simple. Check to see if the basket is grooved from the fibers. If so you have two options. You could file the fingers of the basket flat again (not recommended by me). Replace the basket with a Sprock racing basket. They are a cheap and alot higher quality than the stock replacement. Stock your looking at $269 for a basket. Sprock racing $150.

If the clutch is bad and you need to buy new fibers and steels you can get a barnett or vesrah, ebc, dp, etc. I recommend barnett.

Be sure when installing the steels that they are all facing the same way. You'll feel that one side is sharp and one side is smoothed. This is just how they are cut out. Face them all the same way.

Soak the fibers in the crankcase oil of your choice for an hour and install them.
