What Kind Of 110 Is This???

I bought this POS for $100. I just need parts and I have no intention to fix er up.

The guy said that he couldn't get it running and after taking it apart I think I know why...

OK it is a 1983 frame but I think a 1979 motor was put in at some time...

and I think they tried to use the CDI on this older styl motor...

So... here are the questions...
Can this motor run with CDI or do I need to find the points set up for it?

If I need to change it to points do I need to get a differant head for it??

and Is this a good canidate to modify? (high comp. piston, cam, intake, carb, exhaust.. )

I don't think the cdi stuff will fit in the points cavity I'm almost positive that the cdi cover will not fit on the old style motor

79 110 bottom end with that fly wheel is for points so the cdi will have to go . The cam is also longer so your going to need the cam for a points motor and chang it back . the harness is also probably different as is the coil if its for the 83 . Probably easier to buy a good 81-83 bottom end and just change that and make it CDI.

The wifes bike (250 too small for me I like my CBR 1000).

I am getting no spark, and I have heard that it is hard to mod. a 110 with CDI.

I have checked all parts with exchanging them with my other 110.

Close.. I have no problem making my own harness to make this motor run.. I have already found a points set up. I need a cam so what is a good performace cam for this 110 to make it a beast ? I will also need a differant spark coil if I'm not mistaking.
Also Shortline.. I'm glad you chimed in on this one.. I have checked out your project and LOVE IT!! I'm already have the Nicholson frame for it and am having it sand blasted as we type...

Shortline10,, I have read here somewhere that the CDI is not what you want but, that is the machine that moved me to try this...

So with that being said.. What should I do with this motor? It has great compression, the coil is good and I think it will make motor to modify.

90% sure. It will work good , it's straight, and I got it or under $50.

you can use the high performance cam from a points motor on a CDI motor only difference is you will have to add a spacer to make up the difference for the length of the cdi which stick out about a 1/4" more . CDI cams are not common and in the aftermarket world . I know web will make you one but it expensive . Yorr top end wont work with your bottom end because that bottom end cant be converted to cdi , Fly wheel different wont bolt up . fly wheel electronics wont bolt into that bottom end either . also pull starters are different . Going to have to figure out which way you want to go and buy the correct parts .

I am planning on ditching the CDI stuff. I think putting this motor back to points is the way to go.. I read that the 90cc cam will work fine and they are cheap even for the performance ones. Do you know if this is true?
