    My ( Duckster)Tecate's going MX'ing,Input,Suggestion's/Opinion's !!

Well here it is is all it's Glory just after I unloaded it off the truck back at the shop my newest buy ~ 1984 Special Edition 250 Duckster Tecate ~ Rumor has it that these were put out to dealer's somewhat like the Blue x-mas edition Honda 70 & 110's but the duckster was even more rare cuz they were only made in '84 and it was a 250cc.It made for a little quicker trip for getting to your favorite hunting spot and faster in getting your deer back to the truck compared to it's smaller and slower 4 stroke brother..

Anyway's for time being this is gonna be my next M/X machine since I threw an exhaust spring on the 600 at TF09 back in June.I got the machine off a guy down by Detroit which he said he was the 2nd owner and he did'nt ride it much.It sure was something too look at but once I got beyond the camo paint and started checkin' it out ,it's actually complete and pretty nice.So I told myself I was gonna make this into my MX'r and go from there.I actually am pretty excited to be working on something differant than a 250R or 350X,or a Honda in general as far as that goes, just something differant for me I guess plus I get to learn new thing's.Plus let's just say that alot of peep's have been speaking highly about there machine's and any question I need too have answered I not only get an answer but a way to make it even better,so with all that I decided on mx'ing it.Plus it's a good Guinee Pig candidate to try some new product's on,which I can't wait for that.

I power washed it off and got most of the camo paint off and gained some of the Kawi faded green color back to it,but they came out far from being on anything i'd want to restore i'm just gonna use them for mx'ing just in case something get's busted up.The muffler I think is loaded up pretty bad,I mixed it a tad lean and it still smoke's like crazy and the plug load's up quick,it's like I gotta clean it out every couplee minute's if she's ideling. What are yu guy's with mostly stock machine's that are Not using AMS oil or the like running ratio wise.I think I went 32:1,whatever the manual said I went with.SO the carb's coming off at least to be cleaned and see what main it's got but I also have another carb to monkey with.Another question, what carb are you guy's running and what's your needle set at and what main are you running? I know every machine's differant 100 time's over but I'm just looking for a general idea on setting's etc.

So this is my project for the next couple of day's,I got quite a list of stuff that I wanna do to it so far. I'm gonna put on a lighten flywheel,Axle entender's are going on,possible reed's,carb intake & maybe a carb. The rear suspension is pretty plush and the front seem's fine.Smaller 18" mx tire's are a must ,race number's on there somewhere also.An suggestion's on a front number plate with having the radiator up front? Me being in a bind before labor day an all I need to come up with something,I know I need to eventually get a vented one but no time . I ain't gonna be putting a ton of effort into it cosmetically ,I'm mostly gonna focus on it running as good as possible,ya know.Any quick hop-up idea while I got it up in the air?Oh' it's got 156 psi. compression.

I'd run it at 40:1. Are you sure its not the cranks seals?
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

I run 32:1 in both of my tecates. I've been running 32:1 in the 84 for 20 years, its never been bored. I've put a new piston and rings in once. Using Maxima Super M since I got it in 1988.
