86' tri z no 5th gear!!

I bought a 86' Z a couple of months back from a friend, i've been getting some parts together to get it useable.
Well i found a nos gear lever as the one on it had no splines, i fited the new one and tried the Z and theres no 5th gear!!!! It's like you hit a neutral...??

It changes fine through the gears but theres just nothing there, no strange noises, clickin, clunking, rattles or grinding??? just a big rev and no drive!

I pulled the motor out today, but wondered if anyone has had this before???

gonna start the tear down of the motor tommorow.

any ideas?

Sweet, it's A 49O!!

pray that it's the outside linkage crap under the clutch cover and not in the center case, no big deal if it could use a new set of mains anyhow..........

Well it's stripped down!! and the bad news is the dogs on the back of the 5th gear are toast!!!! and the dogs they lock into on the double gear next to it are bad too!
And theirs some wear on the shift fork!! and the splines are a bit worn on the gear selector shaft.

Anyone know for some gears for sale for my 86' 6 speed Tri-Z?????

good luck, you would have better luck getting 85 tri-z gear set. Also ebay is you best friend when you own a 3 wheeler.
