    200x newbie question

    I bought a 200x a while ago that had been sitting up for about ten years. Cleaned carb, changed oil,... My question is, how fast should this bike be? It starts and runs OK but in all honesty, it is not much, if any faster than my 185s. I was kinda expecting more. If the answer is "it should kick the crap out of the 185s", where should I start looking?

    ^ then you haven't ridden one that's in good shape eric. I've seen plenty of stockers run really well and impress a lot fo people and tear appart many 185/200s bikes. Unles your 66 and/ore weigh liek 300 lbs, you would have a good time with a 200x.

    Consider the fact that i've been riding them since they where new, i'd say you just aren't used to any amount of real power. I'll run you for titles any day of the week. Put up or shut up!!!!

    Ive ridden them since they were new and really prefer more power would've done just fine. a 200x has between 25 and 30 percent more power than an auto 200. In my opinion the the S bikes, especially pre 1984 are so short, they feel like they are really going somewhere because they wheelie unintentially, but really arent doing much.

    Keep in mind, i never said the 185s would run with it. Just that the 1 gen X is seriously lacking in the power dept. But seat of pants feel, the 200 doesn't feel much faster. Whats the H.P. difference between the 185s and the 83-85 200x?

    185= 185cc
    200= 192cc
    Don't expect alot more stock to stock.. If you want more power out of a 200x it is available ie port work a big carb and exhaust makes for a good reliable setup that won't break the bank

    IMO the fastest machine is the one that can be ridden the fastest in a given condition. Take a stock 185 auto-X and line it up on a paved road against a stock 185s and it most likely will be about an even match. Now take the same to ATC's to the MX track and clearly the suspended auto-X will be faster, not because it has more power, it can just be ridden faster in that type of condition.
    Don't worry...just run watcha brung...

    if I had a totallly stock 200x with a stock motor in newist shape, I'd take that bet, but every one i get we tear into and redo with performance stuff to max performance but still retain dependability. (weisco pistons, web rockers and cams, better valves, etc..)

    if your someoen who rides 350x or 250r's then yea a 200x ins tock form will feel slow. it's not a fair comparison, if you get on a 200x after riding a 185s it'lls feel much faster.

    stock 200x= 16.5hp
    stock 185s= 13.5hp

    so the fact of 3hp difference will mean nothing? if all things equile meaning flat drag strip the 200x will win hands down.

    i dont think the 200x is a dissapointment in power for just a 200cc 4 stroke. i mean against a 350x and a 250r they arent fast at all but they are fun to ride. but it should feel noticably faster than the 185 i think
