    250SX Swingarm Bearings??

Got a 85 250sx. Have to do the swingarm bearings soon on it. I pulled the dustcap off it today and was baffled immediatly. My repair manuel says there supposed to be a 17mm allen bolt in there and all I see is a 17mm regular bolt with barelyanything to grab on to. I was starting to round it a bit just putting a little force on it. Is this normal? How do I pul it off?

    A pic would be great

It's usually an internal hex hole and I use a bolt I welded a bar onto......

thats a 15 or 17 mm head on that swinger bolt. I just welded a lugnut to a bolt and turned it out with a rachet. (the correct allen wrench will cost a fortune.) You gotta loosen up that outer nut before you can do that..

Remove the rear shock,,, Disconnect the rubber boot and slide the drive shaft forward,, and the entire swinger comes off on an angle towards the left side if memory serves me correctly..

soak everything down with kroil or pb blaster a day or two before hand..

    WOW!!

Have fun getting that one out!!

Somebody jammed a nut in the center, it should come out with some heat and beating on it. Your gonna need a big punch to drive that outer ring free......

Soak it and heat it with oxy/acet if possible.

    rust!!!!!!!!!!

soak it down a few days with a good penetrant.. try loosing the outside nut first (Reverse threads I think)

If you can't get that inner nut out you'll have to weld a rod to it to get it to break free I think.?

keep us posted. I should have some pics posted on here when I did my swinger. u may find something useful if you search.

lmao yea i have seen this many times. the swingarm bearing are one of the most over looked maintence parts on your trike. your going to need heat and lots of it. and a BIG F%&$ing HAMMER. and some punches. if its soo bad it might have to be destroyed to get it out. i hhave had to cut many out befor cause they were too rusted for heat to do anything.

keep in mine that the pivit bolt and the lock nut are only about $42 online.

you could consider using staged drill bits and start drilling it out 1 size at a time.\

it'll be expensive if you don't have drill bits that big already.

also talk to a local shop. maybe they'll remove it for a $100 fee on both sizes. trust me that $100 is way better than the time and effort your about to spend.

I bought a socket set that included the 17mm allen, something like this:
