I have an 86 R and if I start it in 1st gear with the clutch pulled in, sometimes it will slowly roll forward once it starts. It will not roll forward thought if say i just came to a stop and let off the brakes with the clutch pulled in.

my tecate does this sometimes....is it hard to start if it is in 1st with the clutch pulled in? i am not sure what causes it and i dont really worry about it i think that it is just the clutch staying semi-engaged or the basket springs tightened unevenly :?
Wanna race? ;-)

if you cant ride with the big boys...put it back on the trailer
Yeah, i have an 87 250r and it jumps a little when it first is started also. I never worry much about it...
try adjusting your clutch cable, if that doesn't work check your clutches and clutch basket, etc.

It is not hard to start at all. I think a new clutch may have been put in it sometime before i got it cause the clutch cover gasket is fairly new looking. The lever has the proper freeplay, i dunno.

No, I'm sorry..typo...i have an 87 cr 250r, dirtbike. I only wish I had a trike..working on it though
If the bike has been sitting for a while, it's also possible for the clutch plates to stick together a bit. Most likely, clutch freeplay needs to be adjusted.
for sure its the basket!!! maybe yr basket is grooved, and as discussed before, your plates are sticking together! file the basket a tad.. or replace..
Ride it like you stole it! And never look back! They are too far behind to see!
Clutch doesnt fully disengage, and can be caused by grooved clutch basket, or too heavy oil, or cable adjusted too loose.
Mine has always had a little drag when it's cold. Once it warms up, it's fine.
