does the stem thread into the lower triple, or is it pressed, I can see some kind of circlip on the underside? anyone ever remove this. I had the thing turning both ways, and it doesnt seem to be moving.

It's pressed and all those lower triples are a BEYATCH to get the stem out of.
They bend like crazy............. Even with heat, use heat!! Get the press support in real close!!
It does not like to come out. Jason Hall may have another trick other than what I said.........
All our government does is distract us while they steal from us, misspend our tax $ and ruin our country
Jason can get them out. But I have to know why you want to get it out?
I didnt have to get it out, just thought it was threaded, and an easy job, was actually was having some trouble getting the lower race off, and thought i would just remove the stem to make it easier, but I was able to get the race off, so really no need to remove the stem!, now that I marred up the stemits in the center though, so it should make no diff. Thanks though, now i know for future ref.

take a dremel and cut a groove in the race then hit it with a punch and ill snap and you can get it off.
The scarring in the middle wont hurt because the shoulder the bearing sits on at the bottom is a bit wider than the middle part of the stem.
Be careful in putting the bottom needle bearing in, you need to find a long tube that sits on the inner race of that bearing buts fits over the stem. You can really mess that bearing up if you arent paying attention

you mean to press the lower race back on, or installing new tapered bearing kit? The bearings are good, only reason for removal is that I'm having the triples polished, and wanted to remove the bearing, and seal to clean the area good, and have it out of the way.

I just pressed mine out with a 20 ton electric/hydraulic press. Came out like butter! I wanted to powder coat my lower triple clamp. When I was done with the PC I put it back together with my arbor press. I had to use some extra leverage to get it back together. Maybe take it to a local machine shop, it's about all of 5 minutes of work.

if youre going to have it all apart, just get a new set of bearings for the stem and forget about them
