    250es oil burning question

My Br burns a bit of oil, but in odd ways! Sometimes but not always, on first start up from cold it burns a bit blue for a couple of minutes. I assumed a ring/bore issue. Over the weekend I was clearing a shed out and every time I pushed the trailer up the dung heap and got the rear wheels about 12-18" higher than the front it started to burn blue!!! Caning it around the yard with a trailer full of old engines or a 1/2 ton load of sand and no problems/smoke at all. Power seems good although I've nothing to compare it with (apart from my 70. Hmmm), so I'm wondering if it could be valve seals/guides leaking oil down the stems when it's not on level ground.
    Any theories?
    Thanks.

Could just be valve seals/guides. My 82 Big Red will smoke on start up, then it will quit, never short on power.
