Best Way To Cleaning Clutch Plates

What is one of the best ways to clean the clutch plates on a Tri-z? Some other sites talk about it in general using brake cleaner but I'm not sure about the residue that would be left on it.
What brand clutches are good ones other than oem's?
    Thanks.

I've never heard or seen the need to clean clutch plates. I would assume using brake cleaer would initially be soaked up by the fibers and break down the oil thats surrounding them while theyre installed. I wouldnt recommend it. Barnett makes a very good clutch kit. I wouldnt use anything other than some fresh oil and maybe a clean rag to wipe old grime/dirt of plates if i were you. Other than that, replace them theyre cheap.

If I had it that far apart, I wouldnt waste my time cleaning, I would put a new clutch in it...
No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!

Like others have said, clutch kits are cheap. For what it's worth though, brake clean doesn't leave a residue.

That's the whole point of brake cleaner. You can't leave a residue on brakes just the same as you can't leave it on a clutch. A clutch is just a brake that works in reverse.

Dirty clutch plates? I have never seen dirty clutch plates unless your oil is dirty. How would they get dirty? They sit in clean oil.

    Cleaning Clutch Plates

This is a motor I've had for a while I got for a spare and possible rebuild. The basket is in real good shape it seems but the clutches and plates were stuck together and had to be pried apart. A local atv man said the clutches were Barnett and were still in decent shape...just clean up the plates a little and I could get more use out of them. So I'm just checking on the proper method to do that before reassembly.
    Thanks

    for the steel clutch plates

I rub then on the concrete garage floor to ruff them up,both sides,,,,,,,,, wipe em off and install.
(but first check to make sure they are perfectly flat by laying on a mirror or glass)

D*mn boy, I'm trying to fix it...not tear it up. What do I do with the pleasure plate? Slam up against an oak tree two or three times....

    Thanks though...I think.
