    Atc 250ES brakes

Any suggestions on what to do about the brakes on my 85 250es? I adjust them up and they quit working in no time. Seems to be lots of shoe left. Are the cable stretching? Any way to convert the rear to hydraulic? Are there better shoes out there?

Sounds like your drum could be worn out. There isnt much of a fix for that, other than riggin something on the pads to make them stick out more. There are some pads that are larger and more aggressive that could help. You might be better off finding another hub off egay and replacing it. I had to do that with one of my 85's and that was the fix.

Often times an easy fix for this is to build up the little cam arm with weld. The cam arm I am talking about is what the cable hooks to on the outside - and on the inside it is a little flat paddle that when turned spreads the brakes. You built up the paddle part. Just add enough weld for it to be almost tight putting the drum over the shoes. I have seen this fix time and time again.
