    Wow, Re Sleeving is expensive

Does anyone know where i can get my cylinder re-sleeved cheaper than $200.00?

The machine shop told me $180 for labor, and that's just for stock size sleeve, $40 more if i want to go big bore.....

    My math;

    Re Sleeve $220
    295 Sleeve
    and
    Piston kit
    and gaskets $300
    Head work $ ???

I can get a Pre ported ESR cylinder and piston with head for .. $600.
And that's ready to bolt on, No chance of messing anything up.
Anyone else have a different option?

I would find a different cylinder off ebay, or some other. You can get um on there with new pistons ready to go for around $200.

IT's gotta take a half hour to dial it in and maybe an hour to do the work. 80$ or so and a hour x 1.5 = 120$ just for the set up and bore work, IMHO................................

Yeah sounds like you need to find a different shop to do the work. I dont enjoy paying for people to sit around and bullchit with each other, smoke a couple cigarettes, eat a sandwhich, run and pay their water bill then come back and do the work i initially payed for. I would find a different place, it doesnt take that long to do it.

i've had sleeving done for $100. then you have the cost of a piston, sleeve, and boring. somewhere around $300 when all is said and done.

    Oh Ok.
    Clio eh?

Think that you can safely put a 330 big bore kit in a stock 250r cylinder?

IMHO, even a 310 is a lot for a stock cylinder because of its cooling limitations. If you're going to do a big bore do it right and get an aftermarket cylinder/head and freshen up the bearings in the bottom end. Its not cheap but a new bottom end with all OEM parts will last you another 10 or 20 years.

I plan on doing everything right, OEM bearings, Update clutch, new crank, etc etc etc
Not going to spare much building this next motor.
Just trying not to dump 1k into just the motor.

Jerry France seems to have a good reputation, I was steered towards him by a guy who drag raced snowmobiles when I asked who did his porting. Jerry probably just sends the cylinder out for re-sleeve but if the price is right........

I like Lakes Motorsports in Waterford/Pontiac for work....

Jerry does all re-sleeving in house. I've had several done myself by him...watched him do several right there in his shop. Very nice port matching too.

Lakes?? I will NEVER let those clowns touch another engine part of mine. They couldn't get a simple rod replacement correct on an '85 CR500...not once...not twice...but 3 times! That crank was a mess after they got done with it.

Guess who fixed it RIGHT?? Yup...Jerry France. He does cranks too...in house.Singles, twins and triples.
