    Safe to use WD-40 on......

I was just wondering if its ok to use wd-40 to clean my engine? I sprayed some on a cloth and it seem to to clear up a spot on the motor that was dingy. I sprayed a little on the front part of the exhuast pipe to remove some rust. It took off the rust real good, but I had started the bike and it started to smoke where I put the wd-40 on the exhuast pipe, is that normal?

I soak everything metal in WD40 (except brake rotors) after every wash. It will smoke when you start it but not for long.

Only bad thing is it will draw dust. But if you do alot of muddy riding it will actually help the mud not to stick as bad. I spray mine down with it. I dont mind a little dust.

Most every motocross and harescramble rider I know sprays their bikes with WD40. The rubber hoses are sprayed with silicone and plastics with SC 1 or whatever you like. WD40 keeps your metal and aluminum protected and shiny but does collect dust. WD40 will also clean scuff marks off your plastics and graphics.I don't spray my bike if I'm going to ride within the week. If I do I'll clean it with simple green and wash my bike off before I ride. Then clean the rotors with brake cleaner.

i use it but i use a solition i mix then to clean it off so it does not attract dust.

use a little pomolive dish soap and fill a spray bottle up shake well and spray down what ever you sprayed with wd40.

i clean all my parts this with with process. stuff gets a nice protective coating on then.
