i meant 86-02. the mounting points are differnt them 81-83 xr200. alot of parts will swap but the mounts are different but can be made to work.

none of the front mounts mount up on the 86-02 motors. i put one in my 85 200x frame. i didnt do the swap then.

the 200x is the lightest full suspension frame honda made. the 200s frames are lighter but are hard tailed. the x is a much better frame in my opinion.

The 200XR is not that much better than the 200x (engine wise) in my books. has about .5 compression ratio higher and a slightly better cam and bigger carb. I'd take my 200x (and yes i'm doing that anyway) redo the top end really nice, redo the clutch setup and go from there. once you get the power up if you want more lower end, you can change gearing and same goes for higher top end. change gearing.

My suggestion would be to throw some money at it, instead of trying to shoe-horn a motor into it. Some Mods:
Megacycle mid range cam (Best that i've heard of, Just my opinion)
    Heavy duty springs
Oversize Valves (Better breathing and performance)
    30mm Carb
    Port and Polish the Head
DG Exhaust (or other performance exhaust)

You can also do a xr200 6 speed tranny, not that it helps performance, but hey, ever hear anyone complain about an extra gear?!?!?

you can really get into some coin to hope it up and get a ton of extra power and torque out of it. what it boils down to now days is how much money you have to spend will determine how fast it will go.

R's are good for some things but not others. every thing has it's place. they are greate for making a stupdi fast bike, but they have no bottom end. if your a avif trail rider that doesn;t spend much time in the upper midde to top end of the pwoer band, the R won't feel or be as powerful from my expirences. That's where the 4 strokers have an advantage. low to mid ranges. so it's depenedant on riding styles.

I had a 250r with no porting, and rad valve, 38 pwk, and a PT woods pipe (pt-5 i think) and that thing had lots of low end power but the top end was equal to stock.

It's just dependent on what you're looking for.
I know i suggested things before but honestly if you're looking for cheap performance upgrades, do a bigger carb, and a aftermarket exhaust and that should bump you up for the least amount of money. You might get lucky and find someone selling a used aftermarket cam, those 3 would be my first upgrades. Buy a used carb and clean it all up, get a new exhaust (not really pricey as compared to other machines) and find a cam ( new is not too bad price wise either)

I disagree Oscar. "No bottom end" is too subjective. For instance, I think 125's have no bottom end, but that didn't stop someone from winning the infamous "Blackwater 100" on a 125. IMO the 250R provides every bit as much bottom end, granted with a little more rpm and clutch at times, but snaps to the top end with more power than a 350X. To me, that is an advantage in the woods.

The only time that I think a 350X would have an advantage is if you are luggin up a never ending hill. It would be more forgiving in that case. And this is no offense to the 350X's cause I think they kick azz.
