    1986 X axle vs 2nd Gen R axle

I know this swap can be done, but can someone tell me if the stock 2nd gen. R axle is wider than the 86-87 X axle? and if so, about how much wider?

    Thanks

Deathman knows the exact amount..... Searching may explain it faster.

I thought it was 2 or 4 inches longer when using an 83/84R axle in a 86 200X. Of course the sprocket choices always change and S Specialists will give you whatever you wish (you already know that....)

Some call the 85/86R the 2nd generation and they don't fit at all. Just to be clear..........

HAHA, throw me in this. J/K, the 83/84 250r axle is a plus 4 of stock 86/87 200x. If you use the 83/84 250r or 83-85 200x hubs w/ 83/84 250r axle it will be ~+2 of 86 200x setup. If you use 86/87 200x hubs with the 83/84 250r axle, it will be +4 or 86/87 200x setup. The difference is the offset hubs, 86/87 200x hubs are offset ~1", where 83/84 250r and 83-85 200x hubs have no offset. To make this work you will need the axle, tapered washer and both locknuts. The 86/87 200x brake parts fit right on and line-up right. You will need to get a custom sprocket, I recommend sidewinder for it, its expensive, but lasts. You can get a sprocket specialists(mine was junk and $40 cheaper than the sidewinder). Make sure you get the sprocket bolts and little holders and nuts that go on the back of the sprocket. In order for the sprocket bolts to clear the carrier tabs, you need to shave the tabs down, so they don't hit. Its not a big deal, you just won't be able to use the 6mm allen to adjust chain(you will need a really large channel lock or soft punch of some type). I have a Rad carrier on my 200x, I don't have that issue with the sprocket bolts. And NO, before you get the crazy idea, a 83/84 250r carrier won't fit the 86/87 200x swingarm, its too small.

Thanks DC for the info...Yeh, I consider 83-84 2nd gen. Do you have a 2nd gen stock axle you want to part with? I don't know how it happened but my sprocket hub is bent on my 86X. I checked the honda parts break-down and it does not show it being available as an individual part. I figured I'd just do the 2nd gen R axle swap to make my X a little wider....+2 - 4 inches would be perfect. I think +6 would be to much for me since it's my trail trike. I have a +6 finishline axle on my 85 and it's an awesome sideways trike, but a little wide for some trail situations.
