Alternator/Magneto Output: Enough for heated grips on a 200X

How many amps does the 200X alternator/magneto put out? Is there any extra juice to run a pair of heated grips? Just something I've been wondering about.

its something ~100w max. Safely, only 80% of that can be drawn consistantly. Also remember its AC power, meaning it fluctuates alot. To be most consistent for grip heaters, you need to convert it DC for the grip heater via a reg/rec, small battery/large capacitor and correct wiring methods. Your headlight is 45-60w and thats at 12v, about 5 amps, that would leave ~2 amps left. Now consider the reg/rec will negate 30% of the ac converting it to dc, it doesn't leave you much to work with ~1.5 amps max.

yeah thats not much, this is the first thing I've owned that has no battery so I kinda figured I wouldn't have enough juice to run the grips. They are gonna draw way more amps than the system can handle. Guess I just gotta get some warm gloves and maybe switch to a twist throttle for winter riding.

This might be a dumb question but most sleds dont have batteries or anything how do they do it? Does the stator just have a bigger output? I'd assume so but just wondering. Like my ZL has batteryless EFI and heated grips and lights 10x better than any atc. I'm not much on ignition or electronics, just curious...

comparing a modern snowmobile electronic system to a mid 80's atv system or even todays atv electronics is like comparing apples to oranges. Most snowmobiles don't have a reverse gear, there is a circuit that locks the tranny in first and changes the ignition timing 180 degrees to make the motor run backward, thats atleast how the polaris 2 stroke snowmobiles work, the 4 stroke ones do something similar. Comparing a sport atv to utility atv stator/alternator is very similar, the utility has a much bigger reg/rec, more and thicker stator pole winding and a less fluctuate system, its DC also. Most sport atv's are split ac/dc or just straight ac.

Ricky Stator in CA makes 200 watt stators for the 250R and other makes. They could probably custom wind you one. Will cost around 125 bucks though.

Ok i'm with you here and i guess using the EFI example wasn't the best way to start this out. We also have a couple 79 invader 440's with lights, heated grips, and no issues running all day long. The technology must have been there i guess its just the stator output. Not trying to argue just trying to understand something i dont really know about...
