Exclamation Rear suspension ona 70, from scratch??.......

I tore down my worst 70 yesterday, just to keep things correct and measure them before I chop it up.

Thoughts as I lay in bed:

I need some real tubing, but I know where to get it.

The "Blaster Shock" seems like a great idea, but it's pretty long, so either the rear end has to stretch or a shorter shock used. I can find inexpensive Blaster shocks all day so I figured I'd try it on an angle. Forks?, I have some 1"thick 4" wide 6061 aluminum and a nice boring head for the Milling operation of custom triples, just wondering on the forks themselves??

I'll use the stock headtube and upper tube, but I may buy a longer and fatter one..........

The rear bearings? I think I'll build a carrier for them.

I think I can adapt a 200X rear disc brake pretty easy.

The front, will take some searching and thoughts, most forks are too long. I wish I could cut internal threads on 200X forks, but I don't know if thats even possible the way these were originally made. Then again, there are OTHER ways shortening forks but a different retaining mechanism would have to be used. I'll have to think "outside of the box" ................. 2 piece clips, solid pinning it and other fastening methods can be used with an oring up to keep the oil in place.

Chain adjuster looks to be real easy with a spring, shoulder bolt (pivot) and some bearing with polyurethane on it or a grooved Delrin bearing.....

So, toss me some thoughts/pics if you will? Anything I do can be ground off and tried again, thats the beauty of steel

I'm gonna head outside and start some chopping, we'll see what happens! I'd like to make some pretty neat thats functional, rides well and is easy to maintain. THEN we can deal with a Lifan motor OR a stock ATC70 with some mods some of you guys (Shortline, Bandito, Vealmonkey - and anyone I left out) recommend.

It has to look nice, perform excellent and go easy on my pocketbook. Lots of good parts to mess with here

Maybe I'll make my own axle out of some 01 tool steel (1" or so) and just use a 1/4" key set 90 degrees apart from another one and a couple of set screws for anything that has to remain in it's position and not shear!! Then the diameters can be messed/adjusted with.

These horizontal motors help allot as far as filters/airboxes run.

Time to stop talkin, begin creativity and start doing.......................................

Thoughts are welcome guys and I guess I'll have to copy the pics of some of the older kits just for the sake of some ideas I may rough it together with some 3/4" EMT tubing, just to get a feel for it all........

A-Plus, how about a DC Plus

Sometimes when you throw things away, you wish you had saved them just for this situation.

ALL THOUGHTS ARE WELCOME!! My mistakes can benefit allot of builders out there. And besides, who wants one of these friggen (near unobtainable) rare frames anyhow when the simplest of ATC's made can be messed pretty easy as far as I'm considering............

^ Thats the thing HRT, The only way it seems to work on the Blaster is with a fairly steep angle, I don't believe a Blaster has any linkage either......

Honestly, the Blaster has AOK suspension especially for the top speeds of a Blaster, or the ATC NASTER I'd like to build...

Maybe there is another family of trikes/bikes/quads that can do the job?? Please share fellas' !!

Building an ATC70 with a pogo-stick isn't the answer, we need some rebound and functionality too............

I have a bent/welded 85 frame I can play with and plenty of parts, just gotta order a longer/thicker top tube and some other cold rolled stuff this week.

    ALL THOUGHTS ARE WELCOME!!

One think I have is time.............................................. ..........

Time- ha-ha hime, is by your side, yes it is!! Tieyah-hah-hime yes it is!!!! Oooooh Yeah............

best bet is to start with a pit bike frame,,, then you already have steering head angle and rear suspension attachment points,,, all you have to do is build mounts for seat and tank... study this pit bike frame,,, see how easy its converted this is how i will do my next 70 conversion

Thank you for the picture and I'll shoot you a PM

I wonder how difficult they are to find like THAT, orm if it's worth buying one complete and selling off the useless stuff......

    THANKS for sharing

That frame shown and that trike shown are for sale. With that frame all you have to do is add wheels, tires, tank and fendes and engine and wiring and you are riding. I'm presonally not that ingenious. I know of others who are. Blue27 has triples if you are interested. You may want to try and go with quad parts and design around them. Used parts nowadays can be a gamble. Some parts of the country seem better than others to source used parts. Either way, have fun, take pictures, keep me posted. You know I dig this kind of stuff!

the picture is a ready to bolt on 70... it is built by Ron Baker of PEP .. as it sets in the picture,, $1995.... but you can see the pit bike frame ,, you can see the custom subframe with seat mounts ,, and the swinger,,, so it gives you an idea what is involved in a conversion,,, not really alot of work,,, and the koolness factor is 63 points....
